Americans Pay $84 Billion A Year to Subsidize Illegal Immigration
ICE just announced their new detention policies and two of the provisions are beauts. They will make it near impossible to deport anyone, including criminal illegal aliens.
They call for -
(1) the creation of a new “hotline” that detainees may call “if they believe they may be U.S. citizens or victims of a crime.” [Editor's note: this will be manned 24/7]
(2) the alteration of the detainer so that it may only become effective upon an alien’s conviction of a crime. [Editor's note - and it has to be the crime they were arrested for. So if someone is a suspected murderer but arrested for petty theft, s/he will be thrown back onto the streets before being deported.]
The ICE press release which defines these two provisions are the result of lobbying by the open borders crowd and the ACLU. The second provision blatantly puts the “rights” of the illegal criminal before the safety of the American citizen. It throws out a welcome mat to illegal criminals. Read more here: FAIR
In case you haven’t figured it out by now, all the talk about Obama’s tough illegal immigration policies are a cover-up for what is coming. Obama is an Alinsky-style covert operative. His ultimate goal is to give full amnesty and encourage illegals, undocumented Democrats, to keep coming across the border.
Take a look at some of the costs affecting healthcare as a case in point -
Investors.com reported the story of Marco Antonio Fuentes, an illegal alien who had necrotic pancreatitis and came to the U.S. (illegally) for free healthcare. Mexico has free healthcare subsidized by the government, but like all government-run healthcare, it’s not as good as ours.
He spent a year in the hospital and was cured after the expenditure of millions of dollars at taxpayer expense.
Mr. Funetes went to a charity hospital, Community Regional, which is a “safety” hospital, one that takes everyone in, that’s 1,000 people a year at a cost of $100 million. Unfortunately, we all have to pay for it. This has been make possible by a 1986 judicial ruling requiring hospitals to take all who visit an ER no matter what the conditions. As a result, San Joaquin has a severe doctor shortage. Doctors don’t want to work for free.
On top of that, we have a Mexican government encouraging illegal immigration and an American government inviting it by requiring the American taxpayer to cover the costs for the education, medical care, and incarceration of illegals.
California’s cheap labor costs $21.8 billion annually for education, health care and incarceration of illegal aliens. In 2004, it was 10.5 billion. That is a doubling in seven years.
California’s “cheap” illegal alien labor is bankrupting the state and shrinking the tax base. Services are shrinking while taxes are increasing.
The NY Times reported the story of NYC’s “permanent patients,” many of whom are illegals, who languish in hospitals for months and years because they have no place to go. Even if they no longer need the care but have no place to go, the hospitals must keep them at a cost of millions of dollars.
“Many of those individuals no longer need that care, but because they have no resources and many have no family here, we, unfortunately, are caring for them in a much more expensive setting than necessary based on their clinical need,” said LaRay Brown, a senior vice president for the city’s Health and Hospitals Corporation. Under state law, public hospitals are not allowed to discharge patients to shelters or to the street.
Medicaid often pays for emergency care for illegal immigrants, but not for continuing care, and many hospitals in places with large concentrations of illegal immigrants, like Texas, California and Florida, face the quandary of where to send patients well enough to leave. Officials in New York City say they have many such patients who are draining money from the health system as the cost of keeping people in acute-care hospitals continues to escalate.
But even if Medicaid pays for some care, taxpayer dollars are ultimately being consumed by patients who could be cared for in nursing homes or other health facilities, and even at home if supportive services were available. Care for a patient languishing in a hospital can cost more than $100,000 a year, while care in a nursing home can cost $20,000 or less.
A representative example was reported by the NY Times five years ago. Yu Kang Fu, 58, an illegal from China, was brought to an ER complaining of headaches. He had a stroke, but within days, he was recovered and ready for release. No one would take him, including his son. The hospital offered to fly him to his home in China – China has free healthcare. Mr. Fu refused. The government would not deport him and for four years he stayed at NY Downtown Hospital. Mr. Fu said he was treated well in the hospital, wanted to stay and stay he did.
We simply cannot afford this, but it’s not getting better any time soon. The federal government will do nothing and, in fact, the federal authorities charged with enforcing illegal immigration laws sue states that try to do what the feds refuse to do.
The only way it is going to change is if citizens stand up to be heard. Contact your representative and let him know how you feel.
