What’s Up With This?
Cardinal Dolan’s credibility on the Healthcare mandate is on the line. He invited President Obama, an abortion activist, to speak at his foundation dinner. He did invite Mitt Romney as well.
An Oct. 18 fundraiser – the annual Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner – will be hosted by the foundation’s President, Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the archbishop of New York. The foundation provides funding for healthcare causes.
Barack Obama will be one of the keynote speakers. That would be the pro-abortion Obama who is forcing Catholics to violate their conscience and pay for “free” contraceptives/abortifacients/surgical sterilizations.
You must understand that both Michelle and Barack Obama are serious pro-abortionists and late term abortions are more than fine with them. Michelle believes in sex-selection abortion. Mitt Romney did approve Plan B abortifacients for rape victims in Massachusetts but that is far more understandable than the Obama views.

In 2004, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops issued a statement on “Catholics in Political Life.” It said: “The Catholic community and Catholic institutions should not honor those who act in defiance of our fundamental moral principles. They should not be given awards, honors or platforms which would suggest support for their actions.”
Consider former invitees -
Both Obama and Sen. John McCain spoke at the Al Smith dinner in October 2008, shortly before that year’s presidential election.
But, in 2004, the New York Times reported, neither President George W. Bush nor Sen. John Kerry were invited; and, in 1996, neither President Bill Clinton nor Sen. Bob Dole were invited. Clinton was reportedly not invited because he had vetoed the ban on partial-birth abortion. Kerry was reportedly not invited because he was a pro-abortion Catholic.
Cardinal Dolan said he is keeping with the tradition of inviting the President because it is not a partisan event. [WaPo]
However, Cardinal Dolan did not explain why he believes this invite necessary when Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton weren’t invited while in office. It’s his philosophy I guess. I wouldn’t invite him.
I will withhold judgement based on the fact that Mitt Romney was also invited. The Cardinal said this is an evening for putting politics aside.
In 2008, President Obama joked about being Jesus Christ. Who will he be this year? I’m sure he has some Catholic relative he can dredge up from his past but it’s hard to top Christ.
