Susan Rice had access to all classified intelligence, including the full presidential daily brief before her appearance on the Sunday news shows on September 16th. The intelligence she had contained compelling information that there was no protest in Benghazi and that it was an attack by al-Qaida or an al-Qaida affiliate.
Susan Rice said the following prior to this new revelation:
“When discussing the attacks against our facilities in Benghazi, I relied solely and squarely on the information provided to me by the intelligence community. I made clear that the information was preliminary and that our investigations would give us the definitive answers,” Rice said.
Perhaps Susan Rice was chosen as the Benghazi spokesperson because she is politically reliable and because she was not directly involved in Benghazi, giving the administration plausible deniability. Also, to be a bit more cynical, since she is a black woman, any opposition could be easily deflected with the straw man arguments they have so continuously relied upon.

Senator Collins stated that she wanted more information about Ambassador Rice’s role in the 1998 embassy bombings.
At that time, Susan Rice was Assistant Secretary for African Affairs and the similarities to the Benghazi situation were eerily similar. Both in the 1998 bombings and the Benghazi attack, the Ambassadors begged for additional security and a more secure facility while receiving none. Ambassador Rice was an administration spokesperson in 1998 and 2012.
The 1998 bombings were the first al-Qaida attacks on US soil at our embassies in Kenya and Tanzania.
Ambassador Rice said she was not directly involved in turning down the requests for help in 1998 but Senator Collins said she (Susan Rice) had to know about the requests. Senator Collins would like to see more investigation on all this issue.
Senator Collins is a liberal Republican.
Whether Ambassador Rice had a role or not, why didn’t we learn our lesson? In 1998, we did not provide the resources or the facilities they needed and we did it despite repeated pleas.
Benghazi didn’t have to be.
Susan Rice was an administration spokesperson for the attacks in 1998 and 2012. The dialogue from Susan Rice’s interview on PBS, August 7, 1998 is similar to what she said on September 11, 2012.
Take the following example:
SUSAN RICE: All of our embassies around the world have received warning of this, notice of this, and are taking appropriate precautions. We maintain a high degree of security at all of our embassies at all times, and obviously that high degree of security has been increased even further as a result of this information.
APPER: Why was there such a security breakdown? Why was there not better security at the compound in Benghazi? Why were there not U.S. Marines at the embassy in Tripoli?
