Pastor Terry Jones of the Dove World Outreach Center
An Egyptian court convicted seven Egyptian Coptic Christians and Florida pastor, Terry Jones, to death in absentia for their involvement in the production and dissemination of the anti-Islam film that was used as an excuse for the 9/11 riots throughout the Muslim world.
Terry Jones and one of the seven Coptics who was convicted had posted the video.
Nakoula Basseley, the film producer, is currently in jail for a probation violation on a bank fraud case which prohibited him from using aliases and going on the Internet. He was one of the convicted.
The film, The Innocence of Muslims, depicts the Prophet Mohammed as a womanizing fraud. It’s a kooky and vulgar film, certainly not meriting a sentence of any kind. It was worthy of a bad review but that’s it.
The eight defendants were found guilty of harming national unity, insulting and publicly attacking Islam, and spreading false information — charges that carry the death sentence. None of the convicted are in Egypt and the sentence will likely not be carried out though they are in danger of rogue players.
If anyone has any doubt that Egypt is moving towards an Islamist theocracy, doubt no more. These eight people were basically sentenced to death for being involved in a kooky video.
