Pastor Saeed Abedini and his wife

An Iranian-American Pastor, who was setting up an orphanage in Iran, has been sentenced to 8 years in Iran’s most brutal prison, Evin prison. The charges against him are for “evangelizing.” The sentence was passed down by Judge Pir-Abassi, Iran’s hanging judge.

The evidence was based on Abedini’s activities in the early 2000s when house churches were not considered a threat in Iran.

The charges are bogus, as if imprisoning someone for preaching could ever be deserving of 8 years in jail to begin with. This is an American citizen we are talking about.

He has already been beaten and tortured. They will not give him medicine because he is “impure.”

He will not survive 8 years in this prison. It is a death sentence.

President Obama has not commented on the situation.

National Security Council spokesperson Bernadette Meehan said in a statement Sunday the administration is “deeply disappointed that Saeed Abedini has been sentenced to eight years in prison in Iran on a charge related to his religious beliefs.”

The State Department also called for Abedini’s release:

“Mr. Abedini’s attorney had only one day (January 21) to present his defense, so we remain deeply concerned about the fairness and transparency of Mr. Abedini’s trial,” spokesman Darby Holladay said in a statement.

Another weak-kneed response from the United States.

Pastor Saeed’s family is being represented by the ACLJ.

I don’t understand this phrase, “President Obama Votes Present on Pastor Saeed Abedini.”

I do understand the gravity of Pastor Abedini’s situation. I am glad to know about it and will pray for him to be strong, and for the safety of his wife.

Thanks… if someone would explain the title of this article I’d appreciate the “education.” :)

A politician votes “present” when they don’t want to vote “yay” or “nay” on a particular piece of legislation. Our President made quite a record for himself in the United States Senate by voting “present”, rather than voting his constituents pleasure, on quite a number of measures that came to a vote.

In this case, voting present is an expression meaning he did nothing!

Thanks, I thought it was something like that and I appreciate the understanding now of the use of the response, “present.” I still don’t see in the article when he did this? What was the question they were voting on, when he voted present? Do you know?

“President Obama has not commented on the situation.”

Being non-committal on such a serious matter is seen as taking no position – or “voting present”, as it were.

Okay, makes sense then. This must have come from World Net Daily. I appreciate the news. WND seems to have a subtle deception in their Headlines vs the Story…. I still like it for “truthful” news, most of the time.. lol

Thank you for helping me out….. :)

No, it’s not from wnd. The State Department released a list of US citizens who are being unfairly kept as prisoners and his name wasn’t even on it. Obama refuses to recognize his plight or do a thing to help him.

Quote of the Week

“Tornadoes form below a class of severe thunderstorms known as supercells. Supercells feature intense upward moving columns of air that rotate, as the wind near the surface is drawn into those columns it begins to rotate and forms the tornado vortex. The damage attributed to tornadoes is caused by the strong winds in the vortex and flying debris.

“Oklahoma sits within an area of the United States commonly referred to as ‘tornado alley’ – this area is amongst the most frequent locations of tornado occurrence in the world. At this time of year, the warm and moist air from the Gulf of Mexico and cool and dry air from above the Rocky Mountains come together to make tornado alley the perfect environment to spawn supercells and tornadoes.

“Preliminary reports of damage from the Oklahoma tornado suggest it was of EF-4 intensity, which is the second highest intensity rating. EF-4 tornadoes have wind gusts between about 265 and 320 kilometres per hour.”
