Update June 28, 2011: The government backed off (for now). Kind of appalling they even considered it.
The government is close to getting WH approval for the “spy on doctors” program. What are they going to do with the doctors who are actually trying to make more than $13 a patient? Put them in jail? Take their licenses away? Bully them? This government has no business spying on doctors or any citizen. They work for us. We don’t work for them.
“…Beginning in the next few months, people posing as patients call doctors’ offices and requests appointments, some for a potentially serious health problem and others for routine care. All doctors’ offices will be called at least twice to determine whether they are willing to take in new patients with private insurance while telling participants in government health programs to look elsewhere.
The plan got low marks from internists and family doctors who say it’s already obvious that there’s a physician shortage and that it’s deceitful of the federal government to launch a mystery shopper investigation.
“I don’t like the idea of the government snooping,” said one Washington doctor. “It’s a pernicious practice — Big Brother tactics, which should be opposed.”
The plan has not yet gained final White House approval but is expected to yield a final report by next spring. In all, 4,185 doctors’ offices in a total of nine states will be contacted for the survey, which has been contracted to the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago…” Read here: Government spying on doctors and this is surprising because?
