On Tuesday, Longwar Journal reported Thomas Joscelyn’s testimony to the House Committee on Homeland Security’s Subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence on al Qaeda’s expansion into Egypt and the implications for US homeland security.
Joscelyn said that al Qaeda has taken advantage of the ‘security vacuum’ created by the Egyptian uprisings in 2010 and 2011. He testified that the US supported the toppling of dictators in Tunisia and Egypt but al Qaeda’s head saw it as a US defeat: ‘al Qaeda head Ayman al Zawahiri portrayed the toppling of dictators in Egypt and Tunisia as comparable to America’s military losses and the September 11, 2001.’
Despite disagreements between the Muslim Brotherhood and al Qaeda, Musri opened up opportunities for al Qaeda to proselytize in Egypt and that was acknowledged by al Zawahiri.
Al Qaeda has core leaders in Egypt; al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula appears to be operating in the Sinai; the Muhammad Jamal Network (MJN)is part of the al Qaeda network and is operating in the Sinai; the Muslim Brotherhood or at least elements of it have turned towards violence, et al.
Al Qaeda leaders imprisoned by Mubarek have since been released and are networking.
Christians in Egypt are being subjected to Dhimmitude. According to Raymond Ibrahim, author and Middle East and Islamic expert, ‘The Islamists’ goal is not the annihilation of Copts. Copts are not likely to face a holocaust in the future, though local pogroms are all but guaranteed. The Islamists’ goal is to subjugate Copts to their notions of their proper place as dhimmis under benevolent Islamic rule. It is for Copts to accept dhimmitude, live by it, and embrace it. Copts will be allowed to live in Egypt, tolerated as second-class citizens recognizing and accepting their second-class status. Any attempt by Copts to break those chains of dhimmitude and act as equals is frowned upon as an affront to the supremacy and primacy of Islam in its own land.’
President Obama said al Qaeda is on the run. It is not, it’s actually franchising and morphing:
