“America” is an “Idea” passed down from one generation to the next. We are not born with patriotism, we are taught it. President Ronald Reagan understood that when he said, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same”.
America was built as the land of opportunity, freedom from oppression, the pursuit of happiness.
Today we are living in a troubled times. There was a time when Immigrants came to America, and had to have a sponsor, a job, a health checkup, a criminal background check and they waited on long lists to have the privilege to come to America to live the American Dream.
Once here, they gladly learned to speak English, embrace our culture and became “Americans” in every sense of the word. The greatest thing about America used to be that everyone treasured the Idea of America whether you were born here or legally migrated here.
Today we see borders jumpers who come here illegally, who refuse to learn the language, who haven’t had background checks, some are criminals, and they find a way to get onto to the Welfare System. They refuse to become “Americans”. They want a handout not a hand up.
The Boston Bombers were “refugees” living in America, collecting welfare as they were building bombs to kill us. Why was is this even allowed to happen? We used to fight wars on other continents but today oceans are no long separating us from our enemies. They are now our “neighbors” and we are actually “paying” them with our tax dollars to kill us. This is not the America I once knew.
This generation of Americans are called the “Y” generation, seemingly self-absorbed, selfish, too busy taking selfies to realize the critical condition our great nation is in. Trillion of dollars in debt and they don’t even “get-it” that they are the ones who will be obligated to pay it. They hear the word FREE and don’t realize that FREE comes with a price tag.
We have elected officials who are acclaimed communists, socialists, anti-Americans. and yet they get elected and re-elected! The youth seem to be clueless to this dangerous fact that, while they are playing video games, watching youtube, blogging, posting what they had for lunch on Instagram, they are losing their country to those who hate them or want to enslave them. They are not being taught how to “earn” anything because everyone gets a trophy.
Being raised with a “sense of entitlement” is not going to save America. If you don’t know how to work to “earn” something, how will they “work” to save America? Why didn’t we teach the next generation about the preservation of America?
