Amphon “Uncle Sam” Tangnoppakul, 61, died in a Thailand prison today from cancer. Uncle Sam was made famous last year when he was convicted under Thailand’s lese majeste law. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison for sending four text messages that supposedly defamed the Queen.
He might not have committed the crime as there is evidence his phone messaging was stolen. He said he was innocent and he didn’t even know how to use the SMS function on his telephone to send messages.
He wept during his sentencing and said, “I love the king.” It was the heaviest sentence ever handed down under the outrageous law.
This is what happens when the government is out of control.
