Just as we near the tenth anniversary of 9/11, the Anti-American, Anti-Israel Al Jazeera network is coming to New York. Recently encouraged to expand throughout the United States by President Obama, the Al Jazeera Network is doing just that. Their English version is toned down considerably over the anti-Western attacks spewed on their Arabic version – the English one is far more subtle. Former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld called Al Jazeera’s reporting “vicious, inaccurate and inexcusable” and President George W. Bush joked about bombing it.
The Obama administration, which periodically refuses to allow any of its representatives to appear on Fox News, and is at war with Fox News, proudly boasts that it has “a great relationship” with the anti-American/anti-Israeli Al-Jazeera television network.
The Congressional Correspondents’ Dinner had Al-Jazeera as guests. “They are a really important media entity, and we have a really great relationship with them,” said Dana Shell Smith, the State Department’s deputy assistant secretary for international media engagement, who speaks Arabic and has frequently appeared on the channel. “This administration has empowered those of us who actually do the communicating to be in a close relationship with Al-Jazeera. They understand that the relationship can’t consist of complaining to each other about the differences we have.”
… “The emir of Qatar come by the Oval Office today, and he owns Al-Jazeera basically,” Obama said in remarks recorded by CBS News’s Mark Knoller. “Pretty influential guy. He is a big booster, big promoter of democracy all throughout the Middle East. Reform, reform, reform. You’re seeing it on Al-Jazeera.” Read here: I hate the media
President Obama believes Al Jazeera has made the shift from anti-American crusader to pro-democracy. We don’t have their definition of democracy clearly at hand, but let’s support them anyway. Why not, we’re supporting rebel forces in Libya and in Egypt without knowing how many are Al Qaeda. Why should infiltration through the United States media be any different? Hopefully, they have changed as President Obama believes.
Al Jazeera English has launched in New York now as it has been popularized and legitimized (according to some) because of the Arab Spring. They have partnered with Time Warner and Verizon FIOS. It will be available by satellite across the country. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton lauded the network for its commitment to real news rather than punditry. They will simulcast 23 hours a day with one hour of anchors.
Al Jazeera has been changing its image, on its English stations in particular, by attempting to present all sides of the issue, even giving Israelis air time on their shows. Many of the articles I have read, in the past, called the United States Neocons, violent, invaders, murderers, killers of civilian women and children, and encouraged anti-American fervor, though I have seen the change in tone over the last several years. The same kinds of comments have been made about Israel. They often use American terms such as “neocons” to win over the anti-war faction of the American population – similar to the subtle persuasion so often used by the left in this country.
Here are clips of Bill O’Reilly exposing them:
