As the Drudge Report Turns

When the Donald Trump Jr. Russia story was exposed two months ago, speculation arose that the President was losing the influential Drudge Report. Drudge put the title of and link to the NY Times headline about the story as the banner, along with a picture of St. Basil’s Cathedral in Moscow, part of the city’s Red Square.

Yesterday, Drudge added to the speculation.

Matt Drudge’s headline read:

He has taken the President’s slogan and turned it into a slogan about hate. Actually, that was done eight years ago. It is true that this violence was caused by the evil white supremacists hurling vile epithets against blacks and Jews, but they didn’t do it alone.

Matt Drudge appears to hold the President to blame. Social media is afire with thousands blaming President Trump for the violence yesterday.

Many wanted to hear the President call out the extremist right wing groups present in Charlottesville by name. Oddly, no one wanted the violent left called out by name.

It would have been better if President Trump had called them all out by name, especially the instigators, but do we know who they all are? Are we getting the information from the media that we need to make a reasoned judgement?

The police chief said the violence was premeditated. Wasn’t it premeditated by both sides? One reporter wondered why the media ignored the well-armed, suited up Antifa. He was the only one who mentioned the violent left insofar as I know. Listen:

It was very troubling to see any extremist neo-Nazis and others marching and hurting people, but it has been equally disturbing to see Antifa and Black Lives Matter causing mayhem AND getting a pass.

They should all be condemned and people who aren’t extremists shouldn’t march with them.

Yesterday’s violence was horrific. A 32-year old woman lost her life and dozens more are injured, at least two are seriously injured after the car driven by 20-year old James Alex Fields Jr. careened into a crowd of Antifa and Black Lives Matter. Eyewitnesses say it appeared to be deliberate.

Trooper Berke Bates, Lt. Jay Cullen

If that wasn’t enough, two Virginia State Patrol troopers died when a helicopter crashed in a wooded area near Charlottesville after monitoring Saturday’s events. The pilot, Lt. H. Jay Cullen, 48, and Trooper Berke M.M. Bates, who would have turned 41 on Sunday, were killed. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.

Hate politics didn’t start with Donald Trump as Drudge seems to suggest with his headline. It was, however, ignited by the former president during his eight years of hate messaging. It’s drummed up by identity politics and that’s the left’s mantra, not the right’s.

Identity politics is scapegoating. Currently, whites, especially white men, are the only group not “protected”. They are the latest whipping boys.

The stereotyping of the white man is disgusting. Take columnist for the NY Times Maureen Dowd as an example. After Hurricane Sandy washed away the belongings of their modest homes, Dowd stood before a crowd of white middle-class men in Long Beach, New York, and said: “It’s about time men like you put away your cigars and brandy and stepped outside your mahogany country clubs!” And let’s not forget how Ms. Dowd stood in front of the white Marines in the 2nd Battalion in Afghanistan: “All you who voted for Romney represent the dead-enders of white male domination.”

Identity politics is bringing out the worst in people. We don’t need haters and hate groups. The statues are being taken down to strip the country of its culture and history for a reason, and it’s more than an attempt to respond to people who are offended.

There are even calls to take down all monuments and statues of our Founding Fathers who the hard-left label old, white men. The extreme right who showed up yesterday, for their part, destroyed, in one day, the case for keeping our statues and our history.

These extremist groups on both sides must be condemned and shunned.

It’s a pity if Drudge has turned on the embattled president. Trump, for whatever faults he has, isn’t calling for hate. He isn’t the one calling all whites racist, labeling all cops as racist brutes, making our institutions into social engineering experiments, calling for “blood” in the streets, or praising hate groups like Black Lives Matter.

People want investigations but will anyone investigate why the police were told to stand down and not intervene?

Senator Ted Cruz has called for the domestic terrorism to be investigated. He said “the Nazis, the KKK, and white supremacists are repulsive and evil, and all of us have a moral obligation to speak out against the lies, bigotry, anti-Semitism, and hatred that they propagate.”

They are evil and he’s right, but he never mentioned Antifa or Black Lives Matter.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions has launched an investigation into the car crash which is currently being investigated as criminal homicide. Antifa get to walk away from this one because the other side was worse.

In the meantime, Trump condemned the violence on both sides and is being denigrated in the media for it. Listen to what he said. What’s wrong with this?
