Bluefin Tuna Sold for $1.76 Million in Tokyo

The Japanese must have money to burn. They just sold a 489 pound bluefin tuna for $1.76 million, which is three times last year’s price. I don’t care how good this fish tastes, it can’t possibly be worth $3600 a pound.

It’s just tuna but they are in short supply. Bluefin are overfished because they make for great sushi.

Eighty percent of the world’s tuna is eaten by  the Japanese but, at this price, they might have to find a substitute.

The company that bought the catch admitted the price was a bit high but it probably gets good press for the business, Kiyomura Co.

There are strict catch limits on bluefin but people are still catching them illegally.
