Bob Dylan Faces Imprisonment in France for a Racist Hate Crime

Bob Dylan, can he sense the blood of racists?

A lawsuit was filed in a French court against Bob Dylan for statements he made which have been labeled ‘public insult’ and ‘incitement to racial hatred’. He faces a fine and six months in jail if convicted.

The lawsuit was filed by the CRICCF an organization that represents the Croatian community.

Dylan was interviewed by Rolling Stone magazine in 2012 and he said this: ‘Blacks know that some whites didn’t want to give up slavery — that if they had their way, they would still be under the yoke, and they can’t pretend they don’t know that. If you got a slave master or Klan in your blood, blacks can sense that. That stuff lingers to this day. Just like Jews can sense Nazi blood and the Serbs can sense Croatian blood.’

Rolling Stone is a crazy magazine and saying crazy things to their reporters is just what people do.

In our country, people are allowed to speak freely but I am not sure it will always be that way.

The Croatians took offense over Dylan’s comments and decided to sue. The complaint is incitement to racial hatred for comparing Croatians to the Nazis and the KKK.  Apparently, in France, he can be put in jail for this type of lawsuit. He faces a fine of €45,000 for incitement to racial hatred and six months in jail and a fine of € 22,000 for racial insult if convicted.

The Croatians don’t want him to go to jail but they insist on an apology and they say it’s more about their feelings being hurt. The French put a lot of stock in hurting peoples’ feelings apparently.

Ironically, Dylan was a very public figure during the civil rights movement in the 1960’s. The Rolling Stone reporter asked him how the US progressed since then which is why he gave the response he gave.

Personally, I like to see liberals who see racism everywhere get a dose of their own medicine, but it’s unlikely he will learn from the experience.

In 2003, France enacted penalty-enhancement hate crime laws for crimes motivated by bias against the victim’s actual or perceived ethnicity, nation, race, religion, or sexual orientation.

The French hate speech law has already resulted in a Danish director, Lars von Trier, being investigated for saying he ‘understood Hitler’ at a press conference. The investigation was dropped but the director no longer speaks publicly. There have been other similar abuses of this law.

That is completely unacceptable but I see the left in this country pushing us in this direction which is why we have to fight attacks on free speech now before it gets to this point. Obviously, the French don’t have free speech.
