Hassan Rouhani…but he promised
Iran has sentenced four Iranian Christians to 80 whiplashes for drinking ceremonial communion wine during mass in a home church. They were also punished for possessing a satellite radio.
The Iranian government under the ‘moderate’ Rouhani is cracking down. They were arrested just before Christmas last year.
Iran is essentially making communion illegal.
There are 370,000 Christians living in Iran. Rouhani promised to scale back the harsh punishments doled out to Christians. The opposite is happening.
Licensed Protestant churches must restrict Persian-speaking and Muslim-born Iranians from participating in services. The churches are subject to routine raids.
A UN special report said “More than 300 Christians have been arrested since 2010, and dozens of church leaders and active community members have reportedly been convicted of national security crimes in connection with church activities, such as organizing prayer groups, proselytizing and attending Christian seminars abroad.”
The Iranians denied it was true. These are the people Mr. Obama trusts to work out a peace deal.
