Governor Christie and President Obama will be rubbing each other’s backs this weekend. Governor Christie will provide a photo op for Barack Obama at a time when Obama needs to divert attention from three looming scandals and an AG who lied under oath.
Obama is going to the Jersey Shore to survey the Hurricane Sandy recovery. Obama will talk about “expanding economic opportunity for middle class families who were hard hit by the storm” and he will meet with residents who have done well after the storm (not the ones who didn’t).
Christie is in the throes of a re-election campaign so it won’t hurt him to cavort with Obama in his heavily-Democratic state.
Christie did say that businesses hurt by Hurricane Sandy are back up to an 8 but homes are only at a 4 on a 10-point scale.
Christie is being served up by most on the left as an example of what happens when Republicans work with Obama. Christie is being used to demonize Republicans by everyone on MSNBC and elsewhere.
The left is leaving out the fact that Christie’s praise for Obama was limited to the job Obama did during Hurricane Sandy.
Christie’s new campaign ad touts his bipartisanship:
Unfortunately, Christie’s campaigning leaves collateral damage.
That is not to say that bipartisanship is wrong – it’s the right thing to do.
In the case of Hurricane Sandy, however, all President Obama had to do was fork over taxpayer money and he is good at that. In almost all other areas, Obama is a rigid partisan and it’s impossible to work with him.
