CNN thinks because it’s only a misdemeanor with a six month jail sentence and a fine for the first illegal entry that it’s not a crime. They also believe that because 45% are on expired visas and didn’t enter illegally, they are not committing a crime.
Being here illegally doesn’t mean much to CNN.
The conclusion of the article: So although there are more than 11 million unauthorized immigrants living in the US, they haven’t all committed a crime just by being in the country.
It’s a misdemeanor to enter once illegally, however, it’s a felony to steal Social Security numbers and other identifications to work here illegally and to get other benefits. If they re-enter, which the bad ones especially do, it’s a more serious crime.
No matter how you look at it, it’s a crime.

An undocumented immigrant previously deported for felony convictions was arrested Friday as a suspect in a double stabbing and kidnapping, authorities said.
Oscar Hernandez took off with his 6-year-old daughter, Aylin, around 3 a.m. Friday after fatally stabbing Aylin’s mother and wounding another female victim, according to police in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
