Colorado Massacre Murder Victims

Jon Blunk and Jansen Young

When the shooting began Jansen Young said her boyfriend, Jon Blunk, who has military experience, knew right away what was going on and told her they had to get down. He shielded her with his body.

Jon,who has two children, ages 2 and 4, is separated form his wife Chantel. He was looking to re-enlist in the military. He had been dating Jansen since October.

During the shooting spree, Young recalled hearing a woman screaming, “I’ve been shot,” and a man who stepped on the chair she was hiding under crying out, “Jessie’s been shot.” Jansen heard the constant gunfire and the smelled the gunpowder. She felt very wet from what she believed was a water balloon but was later to find out it was blood.

She thought she was shot at one point and believes she was hit by shrapnel.

She didn’t think she’d make it. “There was kind of a break in between each gunshot,” she said. “Every gunshot, I was like, ‘This is it … I’m done for.'”

Blunk gave her one last push under the seat, a move that saved her life but not his. She thought he was alive and told him they had to go. Until she shook him, she did not know he was deceased.

In the video, Jansen talks about Jon –

Jon just took a bullet for me…what a great hero he is…he provided me with the opportunity to survive through that…one thing he said was I was born to serve my country because he was re-enlisting, you know…he would have done it for anyone…

Laying in bed last night, I said, Jon I love you and I’m so grateful for what you’ve done for me…I can’t even fathom not coming home to Jon…

Matt McQuinn’s last act on this earth was shielding his girlfriend Samantha Yowler from the gunman who calmly walked from aisle to aisle shooting innocent movie goers.

McQuinn dove on top of her. Her brother Nick, 32, also tried to shield her. Samantha was shot in the knee and is in fair condition after surgery. Nick Yowler got out uninjured.

Jordan Dale fought back tears, visibly stunned by the loss of her best friend, 18-year-old AJ Boik of Aurora.

“He was my best friend,” Dale said. “I don’t think AJ deserved this. He really didn’t, he was such a good guy. Such a good guy…He definitely was a silly guy, and just aimed to make people laugh, which just made him such a great person,” Dale said.  [Denver Post]

John Larimer, 27

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class John Larimer, 27, of Crystal Lake, Ill., and Air Force Staff Sgt. Jesse Childress died from injuries suffered in the incident, officials said. Not much is available about these two young men at this time.

One other sailor was treated for injuries and released at the scene, according to a U.S. Navy news release issued today. Both sailors were from a unit that belongs to U.S. Fleet Cyber Command/U.S. Tenth Fleet, located at Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora, Colo.

Childress, who also worked at Buckley, died at the scene of the attacks, Pentagon spokesman Air Force Lt. Col. Jack Miller said.

“I am incredibly saddened by the loss of Petty Officer John Larimer — he was an outstanding shipmate,” Navy Cmdr. Jeffrey Jakuboski, Larimer’s commanding officer, said in a news release. “A valued member of our Navy team, he will be missed by all who knew him. My heart goes out to John’s family, friends and loved ones, as well as to all victims of this horrible tragedy.”

Larimer joined the Navy on June 16, 2011, and was a cryptologic technician third class, and had been stationed in Aurora since October 2011, the release said.

Alex Teves, 24, Victim of the Colorado Massacre

Officials said Teves graduated in June with a masters in psychological counseling from the Morgridge College of Education. His family has not spoken to the media as yet.

“The University extends its deepest condolences to his family and friends, including the many current students and faculty who knew and worked with Alex.”

A friend, identified only as Caitlin on Twitter, posted messages on the social media network early Friday from the Century 16 theater, and wrote on Twitter early Saturday that Teves was, “One of the best men I ever knew. The world isn’t as good a place without him.” She also described Teves as a fan of the University of Arizona and Spider-Man.  [AZ Central]

Rebecca Wingo Murdered During the Colorado Massacre

The father of Rebecca Wingo, 32, confirmed his daughter died in the shooting in a post on his Facebook page.

Steve Hernandez wrote, “I lost my daughter yesterday to a mad man, my grief right now is inconsolable, I hear she died instantly, without pain, however the pain is unbearable.”

Friends said Saturday that Wingo’s parents also posted a message about Wingo’s death on Wingo’s own Facebook page. That page shows a picture of two young girls.

A friend, Gail Riffle, brought two teddy bears, one pink and one white, to the memorial site near the movie theater for Wingo’s daughters, as well as roses for Wingo’s parents.

“Everybody is hurting right now,” Riffle said. “She was a gentle, sweet, beautiful soul.”

Wingo listed Joe’s Crab Shack as her employer on Facebook, and a manager at the restaurant in Aurora confirmed Wingo worked there. He deferred comment to the restaurant’s corporate office, which is closed on Saturday.

Wingo had been enrolled at the Community College of Aurora since the fall of 2009 and had been working toward an associate of arts degree. [Mercury News]
