Dick Durbin, Senatorial Liar?
What a tangled web we weave when we practice to deceive!
This past weekend, Dick Durbin claimed in a Facebook post that a House GOP leader told President Barack Obama that the leader “cannot even stand to look at” him. This was during a recent negotiation over the government shutdown and raising the nation’s debt ceiling.
Here is the Durbin lying Facebook post:
Many Republicans searching for something to say in defense of the disastrous shutdown strategy will say President Obama just doesn’t try hard enough to communicate with Republicans. But in a “negotiation” meeting with the president, one GOP House Leader told the president: “I cannot even stand to look at you.”
What are the chances of an honest conversation with someone who has just said something so disrespectful?
White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said, flatly, that the exchange, ‘did not happen.’
John Boehner was perplexed by the accusation and his spokesman, Michael Steel, said in an email Wednesday that “The Speaker certainly didn’t say that, and doesn’t recall anyone else doing so.”
Brendan Buck, a spokesman for House Speaker John Boehner (R., Ohio) , in a statement released after Mr. Carney’s remarks, said: “Sen. Durbin’s accusation is a serious one, and it appears to have been invented out of thin air. The senator should disclose who told him this account of events, retract his reckless allegation immediately, and apologize.”
“Sen. Durbin stands by his comments,” said his spokesman, Max Gleischman, according to the Wall Street Journal. In other words, he is calling the White House and John Boehner liars. WOW!
Now you see why no one likes Dick on The Hill.
