Rep. Elijah Cummings is leading the pack to defend Hillary Clinton ahead of her appearance before the Benghazi Select Committee and it makes the democrats sound a little desperate. Trey Gowdy is on the defensive and Donald Trump thinks the Benghazi hearing with Hillary Clinton will be a disappointment.
Cummings issued a 146-page report with excerpts of testimony from two Hillary-friendly witnesses that they say proves the committee found no evidence that Clinton ordered the military to stand down on the night of the attacks, no evidence she personally approved a reduction in security before the attacks and no evidence Clinton or her aides oversaw an operation to scrub or destroy documents related to Benghazi, among other findings.
Cummings is willfully making these claims to use as a cudgel against Republicans, the “conspiracy theorists”. The committee hasn’t made any of those accusations. Cummings is deflecting.
Ambassador Stevens emails were just given to the Benghazi committee YESTERDAY and people wonder why there is speculation that the democrats call conspiracy theorizing.
Cummings said “that no witnesses we interviewed substantiated these wild Republican conspiracy theories about Secretary Clinton and Benghazi. It’s time to bring this taxpayer-funded fishing expedition to an end.”
They are turning it on Republicans based on Kevin McCarthy’s statements that Hillary’s poll numbers tanked because of the Benghazi investigation. Rep. Hanna also chimed in and said he thought the committee was political but he has NO knowledge whatsoever of what is going on in the committee. An aide fired in June also said the same thing but he also knows nothing plus he was fired.
There is evidence Cummings’ bullying might be successful.
Benghazi Chair Gowdy had to tell his colleagues to “shut up.”
Gowdy spokesman Jamal Ware said Democrats are jumping to conclusions, and he rejected the notion that the panel is focused on Clinton.
“As Chairman Gowdy said this weekend, the past 18 months of the investigation conducted by the majority Members has not been about Clinton, it has been about the four brave Americans we lost in Benghazi,” he said.
Ware said the report is “further proof” that the Democrats are more obsessed with “covering for Hillary Clinton” than they are investigating the 2012 attacks.
It has to be about Clinton to some degree.
Cummings has been beating up Gowdy and the Republicans over these errant Republicans’ comments and a false accusation that Gowdy was lying when he said Hillary endangered national security.
In an appearance on Face the Nation, Gowdy said Hillary was asked for more security by Stevens on almost the EXACT day he was asked to respond to give Blumenthal public messaging advice.
“Not long after Stevens began his post in Libya, Gowdy said, he requested more security because of the uptick in violence in the country. But on “almost exactly that day” he was asked to read and respond to an email from Sidney Blumenthal, an informal Clinton adviser during her tenure as secretary who was not employed at the State Department. He was also asked for public messaging advice on the violence in Libya,” Gowdy said.
“He didn’t need help with PR, he was asking for more security and on one occasion he even joked in an email, ‘Maybe we should ask another government to pay for our security upgrades because our government isn’t willing to do it,'” Gowdy said. He said Stevens’ emails illustrate “the total disconnect between what was happening in Libya” and the requests he was receiving from the State Department.
The witnesses friendly to Hillary might not substantiate suspicions but there is circumstantial evidence that she ignored requests for security because she was into the image of it.
There is also evidence that Hillary didn’t give a hoot.
Hillary WENT HOME the night of the attack and we know that for certain. She left the secure facility of the State Department to her home which was unsecured.
That night, she did discuss the press release blaming the video for the al Qaeda attack.
The evidence that she is a heartless witch who only cared about PR is pretty strong.
Watch this interview about what we do know:
What could hurt is if Gowdy backs off when he shouldn’t and gives Hillary a pass.
Donald Trump raised reservations about what he perceives as a shift in the Benghazi investigation on Tuesday night, and does not appear as excited about Hillary Clinton’s testimony before the House Select Committee on Benghazi on Thursday as he had been.
“Well, I have to tell you, I was really looking forward to the hearings but then you had a congressman, Republican, go against Trey Gowdy and all of the people, as you know,” Trump said Tuesday night on Fox News’ ” Sean Hannity.”
Trump remarked that he saw a “big pivot” in Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) in the way the investigation might run.
Gowdy had told POLITICO in an interview published Sunday that “[w]hen I hear that ‘it’s about her,’ it is so hard for me.”
“You are not worth 18 months of my life, with all due respect. Four dead people are, but you’re not,” Gowdy said of the former secretary of state.
“And then yesterday, I watched Trey, who I do respect, I think he’s a terrific guy, but he seemed to be doing a big pivot. He said, ‘Well this isn’t about Hillary Clinton.’ You know I’m pretty good at figuring this stuff out, and he seemed to be doing Sean, I’m sure you saw it, he seemed to be doing a big pivot away from Hillary Clinton. And I was trying to figure out what that was all about. So you may not be as happy as you think with these hearings. I just don’t know. The hearings — I was looking forward to them,” he added.
“But with all that’s happening, and I was surprised that he pivoted away so much from Hillary.
If Gowdy and the other Republicans don’t ask the tough questions and insist on answers, it won’t go well for Republicans from any quarter and it will give Hillary the PR she craves. All people want are the answers.
