The onetime star of The Voice, the very talented Christina Grimmie, was signing autographs for fans after performing at a Florida concert when she was gunned down. Five shots were fired, Ms. Grimmie was shot twice in the head. The gunman then turned the gun on himself. He brought two guns and a large hunting knife with him.
The Orlando police said the man who shot and killed Grimmie was Kevin James Loibl, 27, of St. Petersburg, Florida.
What kind of person does a thing like this? He drove two hours with this on his mind and did it anyway. The police said he planned to get away.
Grimmie’s brother almost immediately tackled the shooter, who shot himself during the scuffle. He was described by an observer as lying in a pool of blood, his face “completely disfigured.”“I don’t think anyone expected something like this to happen. It was horrifying,” the observer said.
A publicist for Grimmie, Heather Walsh, said in an email early Saturday that “we can confirm that Christina has passed and went home to be with the Lord.” The Orlando Police Department also confirmed on its official Twitter page that Grimmie had died. The Orlando police chief John Mina, in a press conference Saturday morning, said it’s looking like a “deranged fan.”
It is believed he might have stalked her on social media.
Grimmie was 22 years of age and a New Jersey native, who began her career on YouTube while still a teenager and who finished third on The Voice in 2014.
There were about 120 people in attendance at the time of her murder.
The gunman slipped in with two guns but it was a casual event. The left is already screaming for more gun laws.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reported in 2014 that Grimmie moved to Los Angeles in 2012 after joining Selena Gomez on tour to focus on her singing career.
“I’m done being surprised by cool things she does. She’s very talented and she’s worked incredibly hard — it’s a dangerous combination,” her brother Mark Grimmie told the newspaper at the time.
Ms. Grimmie apparently did a lot of work for the Humane Society and she was an avid gamer. Her favorite character was Ness. She didn’t have a boyfriend because she said she didn’t have time.
Many are sharing this tweet by Ms. Grimmie in 2013:
Sometimes God allows terrible things to happen in your life and you don’t know why. But that doesn’t mean you should stop trusting Him.
