A North Carolina man decided to take it upon himself to investigate what is a fake news story, Pizzagate as it has been names.
Pizzagate began with people reading into Wikileaks emails showing John Podesta and his brother making what some people thought were covert references to a child pedophile ring with ‘pizza’ being the code word. At the center of the conspiracy theory is a popular pizza restaurant, Comet Ping Pong. Allegedly, according to the fake story, there were ties to David Brock, Hillary Clinton’s dirty tricks man.
There are zero facts to support it.
The owners of the restaurant have been accused of being involved in this alleged sex operation. They’ve been repeatedly threatened on social media. Reddit closed down the Pizzagate thread at the center of the conspiracy.
A 28-year-old from Salisbury, North Carolina, Edgar Maddison Welch, walked in the front door of Comet Ping Pong and pointed a firearm in the direction of a restaurant employee because he decided to investigate it himself. The employee was able to flee and notify police. Police said Welch proceeded to discharge the rifle inside the restaurant; they think that all other occupants had fled when Welch began shooting.
No one was hurt and Welch was charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
Police said he surrendered shortly after officers surrounded the pizza shop and emerged with his hands raised above his head.
Pizzagate has been building steam with amateur detectives making assumptions based on no facts other than some weird art the Podestas are allegedly involved in collecting. So far, they are only guilty of being weirdos with a fondness for bad art that the intelligentsia says is great.
While [Comet Ping Pong pizzeria owner James] Alefantis has some prominent Democratic friends in Washington and was a supporter of Mrs. Clinton, he has never met her, does not sell or abuse children, and is not being investigated by law enforcement for any of these claims. He and his 40 employees had unwittingly become real people caught in the middle of a storm of fake news.
The New York Times reported: “From this insane, fabricated conspiracy theory, we’ve come under constant assault,” said Mr. Alefantis, 42, who was once in a relationship with David Brock, the provocative former right-wing journalist who became an outspoken advocate for Mrs. Clinton.
While not a fan of some of the sources we are using, we also investigated the accusations which spun into a full-blown tale on reddit. There was not one fact that we could find, just rumor and lies with pictures taken from websites and attributed to this debunked pizza pedophile ring. Sometimes pizza is just pizza. The archived threads can still be found on reddit.
