“Under the Gun” was never meant to be a fair and balanced documentary but the producers told the gun rights’ advocates it would be to get them to participate. The people behind it are from the Fascist far-left and we need to be very concerned. They include George Soros and Michael Bloomberg.
Truth is to a liberal as salt is to a slug, someone once said.
Under the guise of documentary journalism, pro-gun activists were interviewed by Katie Couric in order to “provide varied viewpoints.”
WPTZ falsely claimed there is more license in documentaries. That’s a patently deceptive statement. Documentaries are by their nature fact-based journalism.
Documentary is defined as a movie or a television or radio program that provides a factual record or report. There were people behind this who are on the far-left of gun control – the ‘partners’ as listed on the ‘Under the Gun’ website:
Americans for Responsible Solutions [Giffords-Kelly PAC]; Brady Campaign to prevent gun violence [rabid anti-gun group]; Everytown for gun safety [Michael Bloomberg]; Sandy Hook Promise [tied to Bloomberg]; Moms Demand Action; Violence Policy Center [part of Everytown]; Purpose Over Pain [Chicago State U funding]; Jessi’s Message [tied to WAGV, leftists who model themselves after Betty Friedan]; WAVE [leftists who received a Federal grant from the DoJ]; Arizonans for gun safety [run by Geraldine A. Hills who claims to be a Republican. They stand with leftists at Americans for Responsible Solutions and Sandy Hook Promise et al], Maine Moms Demand Action [Everytown]; Michigan Coalition to Prevent Gun violence [tied to Soros-Podesta Center for American Progress Action Fund and Hillary County Democrats]; San Diego Chapter Brady Campaign; There’s Gun Sense; God Before Guns; Michigan Million Mom March Chapter; OCACV; Organizing for Action [Obama’s PAC]; Manhattan Chapter Brady Campaign; NYAGV.
Many of these are state ‘affiliates’ or offshoots or division of States United to Prevent Gun Violence, listed with the IRS as a Chicago-based educational organization, and it isbacked financially by George Soros who also backs many of the Brady groups.
Many are offshoots of these major players.
An interesting note from Capital Research:
Conservative groups often focus on one or a few issues like abortion, taxes, excessive regulations, immigration, or guns, and rarely unite behind other causes. Conversely, the Left should be understood as a single amorphous organism. Like a giant amoeba, one segment may move one way and a second another, but the whole organism moves slowly forward as one. While leftist groups may identify themselves with one issue, most work together on all leftist agendas.
Thus the gun ban lobby actually includes the ACLU, Women Strike for Peace, People for the American Way, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, Physicians for Social Responsibility, National Council of La Raza, as well as labor, women’s, and medical groups. (Yes, the gun control Left has captured the national leadership of such groups as the American Academy of Pediatrics, which has stated, “The most effective way to prevent firearm-related injury to children is to keep guns out of homes and communities.”)
Practically all mass media outlets, including ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, the publicly funded PBS, most major daily newspapers, and many magazines overtly push an anti-gun agenda.
Bloomberg actually has a fake ‘news service’ to run alongside the activities of his anti-gun groups like Everytown.
The documentary was the official selection at Sundance [Soros-funded], San Francisco International Film Festival, HotDocs [Canadian left, tied to Soros/Sundance], and winner of Boulder International Film Festival.
It’s not unusual to see Soros projects tied to winning films like ‘Under the Gun’.
The film is being praised and that’s not an accident.
Mother Jones, the Soros-funded far-left online publication wrote about the film, “Masterfully crafted…the details are mind-boggling […] the film is nothing if not comprehensive.” They had quotes from the usual Sandy Hook parents, and even an alleged Republican who is a licensed gun dealer, repeatedly claiming the facts bear out their point of view.
Even the very far-left, admitted Marxist, Father Pfleger, friend to Rev. Wright and Bill Ayers, weighed in. “We talk about five people or six people shot somewhere in a mass shooting or in a mall or at Ft. Hood or whatever, and the whole country is outraged, as they should be. But that happens at a night in Chicago and they call it another night in Chicago,” he said.
He is blaming gang and drug violence on the equipment used.
Couric won’t correct the lie and they – the media – are actually using the lie to promote the film.
These liars are out in the open and the sad thing is they know they will get away with it.
The point is that none of this was accidental. The documentary was a planned infomercial against guns, the edit was likely planned, the awards were probably pre-determined and the worst of the worst were behind it.
This is what President Van Cleave of the Virginia Citizens’ Defense League (VCDL) was told and which he sent out in a VA Alert:
I received an email in March of 2015 from Kristin Lazure, a producer for Atlas Films, asking if VCDL would be part of “a documentary about the gun violence prevention movement in America.”
In the email, Kristin said, “Some of the storylines we’re exploring include the legislative process on the federal and state level, how the Second Amendment has been interpreted in the wake of the Supreme Court’s Heller ruling, and what impact mass shootings like Aurora and Sandy Hook have on gun reform legislation.” She continued, “In order to fully understand the complexities of this hot button topic and speak to an audience with varied viewpoints, Ms. Couric is very eager to include all perspectives in this discussion.”
As is VCDL’s general policy with the media, we do our best to accommodate their requests, as it gives us a chance to get our message out to the public. It is a policy that has worked well for as long as VCDL has been around, with the exception of four times, and this was to be one of those exceptions.
Van Cleave had the foresight to record the interview in its entirety.
The following clips come from an excellent article at Gadsden Gun Blog.
This is the full audio tape of the edited segment:
This is the replaced clip. The words “licensed gun dealer” are taken out, the answers are replaced and ends with a magazine clicking as it’s being shut.
They interviewed them for nearly two hours but only included four minutes.
When Couric asked how to prevent felons or terrorists from getting a gun, they didn’t simply omit the responses, they REPLACED it with footage of an 8 second silence they asked the group pre-recording, ostensibly to check for ambient sound.
How convenient that they had those 8 seconds. I have seen films made and they don’t ask the participants to sit silently as they check for ambient noise as a matter of course – the producers and technicians usually do it.
The director Stephanie Soechtig presented a clearly dishonest take on why she did it. “My intention was to provide a pause for the viewer to have a moment to consider this important question before presenting the facts on Americans’ opinions on background checks.”
I support Stephanie’s statement and am very proud of the film.”
Epix — a television network and streaming service — said that it “stands behind Katie Couric, director Stephanie Soechtig, and their creative and editorial judgment. We encourage people to watch the film and decide for themselves,” wptz reported.
Of course they WOULD say that.
If and read the article ‘Gungate’, you can read about how the VCDL participants reacted. They knew the documentary would be biased but thought Couric was a responsible journalist who wouldn’t deceptively alter their discussion. Obviously they miscalculated and underestimated the woman’s capacity for deceit.
These people are all Alinsky-ites – lying is part of the acceptable process.
