Fascism in America, Starting with Chick~fil~A

Fascism in America is alive and well.

Chick~fil~A’s President, Dan Cathy, is opposed to gay marriage and said so in an interview. The company in no way discriminates against gay people. Nevertheless, he caused an uproar.

LGBT, the extremist gay, bisexual and transgender group, will launch a Kiss-in tomorrow in front of all Chick~Fil~A’s. They have called for the boycotting and closing of the chain’s stores.

Dan Cathy said nothing different than President Obama up until a few months ago which makes the uproar all the more confusing unless you accept the fact that the Chick~fil~A opponents hate anyone who opposes them.

People can protest and boycott anything they want, but the problem comes in when the government attempts to silence the right to free speech. It’s fascism, but weigh in they did.

Boston Mayor Thomas Menino told the Boston Herald that he no longer wanted Chick-fil-A in his city. Muppets creator Jim Henson Co. backed out of a partnership with the chain to make kids-meal toys. [LA Times]

A Chicago alderman said he would block the company from building its second Windy City location in his ward.

Mayor Rham Enamuel said,

Chick-fil-A values are not Chicago values… They disrespect our fellow neighbors and residents… This would be a bad investment, since it would be empty.”

Despite much handwringing across the US about “Chick-Fil-A’s First Amendment rights,” Emanuel stood by his comments about the chain’s values. He explained:

“…the simple reason is, when it comes to values, there’s a policy as it relates to gay marriage. The values of our city are ones that welcome and recognize that, and I will continue to fight for that.” [Inquisitir]

The next city to tell Chick-fil-A to keep out? SAN FRANCISCO.

Edwin M. Lee, mayor of the progressive city, tweeted Thursday night: “Very disappointed #ChickFilA doesn’t share San Francisco’s values & strong commitment to equality for everyone.”

He also added a warning to his subsequent tweet: “Closest #ChickFilA to San Francisco is 40 miles away & I strongly recommend that they not try to come any closer.” [LA Times]

The Philadelphia City Council will consider a resolution condemning Chick-fil-A for what one city leader called “anti-American” attitudes that promote “hatred, bigotry and discrimination.”

City Councilman Jim Kenney sent a letter to Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy telling him to “take a hike and take your intolerance with you.”

“My effort is to allow people to understand that in certain segments of corporate America there are folks who are using their dollars to promote hatred, bigotry and discrimination,” Kenney told Fox News.

He is introducing a resolution to “condemn this anti-American attitude of trying to deny civil liberties that every American enjoys.”

Kenney joined the mayors of Boston, Chicago and now San Francisco in blasting the Atlanta-based company for supporting a biblical definition of marriage – a union between one man and one woman. [Radio Fox News]

The ACLU said the following,

The government can regulate discrimination in employment or against customers, but what the government cannot do is to punish someone for their words,” said Adam Schwartz, senior attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois. “When an alderman refuses to allow a business to open because its owner has expressed a viewpoint the government disagrees with, the government is practicing viewpoint discrimination.”[Fox News]

Alan Dershowitz, famous liberal lawyer and Harvard Professor, said,

Mayors who have told the owners of Chick-fil-A that the restaurant chain is not welcome in their cities are displaying terrible intolerance, Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz told Newsmax.TV in an exclusive interview.

No city is free to discriminate against a company based on the views of its owners, the renowned criminal appeals attorney said.

If you dont like their principles, go to McDonalds, said Dershowitz. [Desert News]

Mayor Mike Bloomberg of New York City said it is “none of government’s business.”

Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly made it the subject of his talking points –

Governor Huckabee arranged a Chick~FIL~A Appreciation Day yesterday which brought long lines to Chick. Some restaurants ran out of chicken.

Wednesday was Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day, created by former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, who was incensed by protests after Cathy told the Baptist Press his company supports “the biblical definition of the family unit.”

There were long lines at Chick-fil-A’s across the nation as patrons queued up to support the chain as well as the right to free speech. [Detroit Free Press]

Tomorrow is the LGBT Kiss-in. As Huckabee said, if they think having gay couples kiss each other in front of families helps their cause, then it’s their right.

What happens when the government wants to violate your freedoms? Will you have to accept it? If Chick~fil~A loses their right to open businesses where they please because of personal viewpoints the owner expressed, then you too will one day be a victim of the Fascists.
