Dion Waiters started the year with the Cavaliers but after several losses, head coach David Blatt swapped in Shawn Marion.
Immediately after, on Wednesday, Dion Waiters refused to stand with his teammates during the national anthem in Utah because he is a Muslim. He allegedly informed Northeast Ohio Media Group that he is a Muslim and that’s the reason he excused himself prior to the National Anthem.
“It’s because of my religion, Waiters said, “That’s why I stayed in the locker room.”
He is rededicating himself to his Muslim faith and is happier now. Apparently that means he can’t stand for the National Anthem.
A day after the report he denied the story in a tweet, “Lol I wasn’t going to even say anything about the situation but whoever made that up about me & the national anthem is a damn lie.”
The person who reported the story has no incentive to make it up. Waiters did have incentive. He was probably trying to diffuse the controversy of not appearing in the starting lineup because he was pouting. Being a dope, he came up with an excuse far worse than the truth.
On the off-chance that he meant it, there are two words for him – get lost. Seriously, get lost, go move to a Muslim country where you won’t make millions each year, Dion, but won’t have to stand for the National Anthem.
