Healthy, Hunger-Causing School Lunches – Government Gone Mad

My nephew started middle school this past week to find that the highlight of his day would be the school lunch. Cookies and ice cream are banned. Pizza sticks – gone! They’ve been replaced by, get this, BRUSSEL SPROUTS! As if that is not enough, the lunch prices have increased considerably.

His mother asked the Principal why he did it. He said it wasn’t him, it was the government.

Sure enough, the U.S.D.A. unleashed their new healthy meals on the school children of America this year and, in their wisdom, they replaced pizza sticks with brussel sprouts. If only it stopped there. It doesn’t. The meals are all-around unappetizing, they over-regulate calories, and are just not filling.

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said, “Improving the quality of the school meals is a critical step in building a healthy future for our kids. When it comes to our children, we must do everything possible to provide them the nutrition they need to be healthy, active and ready to face the future – today we take an important step towards that goal.”

A laudatory goal, too bad they went to an extreme makeover.

Under the new regulations, schools will have to offer fruits and vegetables every day, increase whole-grain foods and reduce the sodium and fats in the foods served. They will also offer only fat-free or low-fat milk. In addition, the menus will pay attention to portion sizes to make sure children receive calories appropriate to their age, according to Kevin Concannon, USDA under secretary for food, nutrition and consumer services.

Maybe they should just serve them bread and water.

School lunches did need some revamping. The processed food they serve in the school cafeteria is the same food they serve to prisoners. However, under these new guidelines, it will still be processed food but with canned fruit and vegetables, and now it will have a phony health-food label.

This is all part of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act signed into law last year by President Barack Obama and championed by the First Lady Michelle Obama as part of her Let’s Move! campaign.

I think the law is aimed at causing the children to go hungry while they’re in school.

Rep. Steve King of Iowa said the new school lunch standards are “the nanny state personified.” He said parents have approached him and have said things like, “My kids are starving in school. My kids are being rationed on calories.”

ThinkProgress, one of the Soros’ sites, made fun of Rep. King and said he wants to put junk food back in the schools. Seriously? They think a cookie or a pizza stick would be a disaster?

Government is the answer to everything or maybe not. My nephew’s mother plans to cook lunch for her child and bring it school each day and it will include a big cookie. Let them try and stop her. I’m sure if the government can, they will.

If we don’t stop them, they will make all our decisions for us and usurp our rights. The nanny government is out of control. Since Obamacare has passed, they feel they can tell us what to eat and drink because they see themselves as paying for people’s ill-health. Another reason to get rid of Obamacare.

It won’t stop at Big Gulps, school lunches, cigarettes, alcohol, salt, fat, pizza sticks so either start complaining or get used to the government telling you and your children what your diet will consist of.

Also, expect the demand for school lunches to decrease exponentially as the number of brussel sprouts in each meal increases.
