Say, did you hear the one about the one million stolen Social Security numbers the IRS kept from the American public? No, that’s not a joke and by now you’ve guessed they were stolen by illegal immigrants, but, hey, that’s okay, judges and our government have already ruled that’s NOT fraud. They just want jobs.
That’s the joke.
The Washington Times reported that the IRS not only didn’t bother to tell us, but it’s been going on for five years.
The IRS has discovered more than 1 million Americans whose Social Security numbers were stolen by illegal immigrants, but officials never bothered to tell the taxpayers themselves, the agency’s inspector general said in a withering new report released Tuesday.
Investigators first alerted the IRS to the problem five years ago, but it’s still not fixed, the inspector general said, and a pilot program meant to test a solution was canceled — and fell woefully short anyway.
Sure, pilot program! One million taxpayers didn’t know their Social Security numbers were messed up.
As a result, most taxpayers don’t learn that their identities have been stolen and their Social Security files may be screwed up.“Taxpayers identified as victims of employment-related identity theft are not notified,” the inspector general said.
The report alarmed lawmakers on Capitol Hill, who were shocked that the IRS had gone for so long without fixing the issue.
Does anyone believe the lawmakers were “alarmed”?
The lawmakers know that the administration has made it criminal for employers to probe.
Victims’ numbers are stolen by illegal immigrants who need to give employers a valid Social Security number in order to get a job. Employers are prohibited from probing too deeply into numbers, even when they suspect fraud.
The IRS can’t say they didn’t know.
But the IRS learns of the scam when the illegal immigrants file their taxes using a special Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) the agency doles out chiefly to illegal immigrants as a way of making sure they’re paying taxes even if they’re not supposed to be in the U.S.
SURPRISE — The IRS has no comment.
The illegal immigrants use the stolen numbers, not only to get jobs, but to get welfare in the form of IRS tax credits. That’s money they get back from the IRS for having children and not paying enough taxes.
IRS commissioner Koskinen, who is facing possible impeachment, said at one hearing that many are stolen from people they know and that makes it okay?
Remember when the IRS under Koskinen rewrote the law to allow fraud as long as illegals are paying taxes, taxes which are often returned to them and more because they don’t make enough? The IRS only goes after legal Americans for fraud.
