Impoverishing the US: Large Numbers of Immigrants End Up on Free Healthcare

If Mr. Obama legalizes millions of illegals next week, it will put a substantive drain on our health system and our financial well-being.

Medicaid is the “free” healthcare paid for by taxpayers and Mr. Obama can’t give it away fast enough.

Seventy-one percent of enrollments on Obamacare are due to the Medicaid expansion according to The Daily Signal. A key part of the Affordable Care Act is Medicaid expansion for those with low incomes.

Immigrant families greatly benefit from Obamacare according to The Center for Immigration Studies (CIS). No one begrudges them help, however, it points to another problem in our immigration system. We are allowing large numbers of immigrants who can’t sustain themselves and Mr. Obama is about to make it much worse.

A new report from CIS found that forty percent of new Medicaid recipients are immigrants and their U.S.-born children. This is at a cost of $4.6 billion annually, according to the U.S. Census Current Population Survey’s Annual Social and Economic Supplements. Most are legal immigrants.

The number of immigrants and their U.S.-born children (under 18) on Medicaid grew twice as fast as the number of natives and their children on Medicaid from 2011 to 2013 — 11 percent vs. 5 percent. That should alarm people.

Overall, the report shows that nearly half (48 percent) of immigrants and their children were uninsured or on Medicaid in 2013, compared to slightly over a quarter of natives (27 percent).

We will impoverish our country if this continues.

Medicaid was expanded to impoverished and low-income adults and our immigration system admits large numbers of immigrants with low-levels of education who end up poor and uninsured.

Two-thirds of the Medicaid recipients were the adult immigrants and not the children of immigrants born in the United States.

The Medicaid expansion decreased the number of uninsured from twenty-eight percent in 2011 to twenty-three percent in 2013. Medicaid was not expanded in 36 states. If it were, the cost would be unsustainable.

Mr. Obama plans to legalize about 5 million next week in violation of our Constitution, at least as it was written before Congress allowed Imperial Presidents to erode their authority. These 5 million will be very expensive indeed. Most, perhaps all, are uneducated and poor.

President Obama is about to burden our system with millions of illegal immigrants who are poor and uneducated.
