When the Islamic Center of Houston was set ablaze on Christmas Day, the leftist hacks at CBS News, NBC News, CNN and a number of other outlets including Salon immediately began railing about Islamophobia and blaming the crime on 2016 GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump’s rhetoric, without any evidence whatsoever.
The leftists at Salon wrote an article claiming: “Muslim community members say the attack was a hate crime. Texas mosques have previously been targeted by heavily armed anti-Muslim protesters. Many Texas Muslims have said they feel unsafe in the atmosphere of aggressive hate and bigotry.”
Mustafaa Carroll, executive director of the Houston chapter of the leading Muslim civil rights organization the Council on American-Islamic Relations, was also quoted in the story as saying, “Because of the recent spike in hate incidents targeting mosques nationwide, we urge law enforcement authorities to investigate a possible bias motive for this fire.”
It took 80 firefighters to put it out.
As it turns out, a devout Muslim set the fire as he left on Christmas Day. He can be seen on video.
Thirty-seven year old Gary Moore said he attended a Houston mosque five times a day, seven days a week. He also set fire to it on Christmas Day.
None of the officials at the mosque knows him so someone is lying.
The Daily Caller noticed it was taken down for a while and now it’s back up with the amended paragraph: “Although the Houston mosque appears to have been set by a Muslim, other Texas mosques have previously been targeted by heavily armed anti-Muslim protesters. Many Texas Muslims have said they feel unsafe in the atmosphere of aggressive hate and bigotry.”
The CAIR quote is gone! It can still be read at the NY Daily News however.
When the Daily Caller contacted Salon to ask about it, they made matters worse with their slimy answer:
“The piece was not ‘taken down.’ It was temporarily reverted to a draft, in order to be edited. I was working on another piece at the time (I often write three to four per day) and, as soon as I finished it (a piece criticizing Obama’s mass deportation policies, I might add), I added an update to the Houston mosque piece and it was republished at 5pm, with an editor’s note. I’m sorry this doesn’t fit your narrative, but your entire post is not just misleading — it is plain wrong.”
They don’t even know enough to be truthful when caught.
Even after the perpetrator was identified, Al Jazeera reported it as if it were Islamophobia anyway:
Anti-Muslim sentiment has been on the rise in the United States, stoked by recent ISIL-related attacks in France and California and anti-Muslim statements by Republican presidential hopefuls.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations said the scale of vandalism, damage and intimidation at U.S. mosques this year is the worst in the six years it has kept records.
There is really no evidence that anti-Muslim sentiments are on the rise, in fact, the evidence points to it not being the case.
No one can figure out why Moore, a Muslim, would do such a thing but it’s not likely it’s a hate crime. Was he converted in prison? It would be interesting to know. He’s not a reputable character.
