It’s hard to explain anything a crazy person says so we’ll just report.
If something isn’t done about Stand Your Ground laws and George Zimmerman, Jesse Jackson wants Florida boycotted because it’s like an apartheid state.
He certainly knows his hyperbole!
“No doubt, the inclination is to boycott Florida, stop conventions, to isolate Florida as a kind of apartheid state…” said Jackson in an interview with Anderson Cooper.
There are positives and negatives associated with Stand Your Ground laws. The statistics are frequently quoted to favor repeal but, in fact, the statistics cited only concern ‘justifiable’ homicides. From 2000-2004, there were 12 such murders a year. Since 2005, there have been 35 a year.
The law allows people to defend themselves with a gun outside their home. If the justice system sometimes fails and excuses people it shouldn’t, that has to be addressed but not necessarily by repealing the law.
Opponents to Stand Your Ground, such as Obama, Holder, Jackson, do not believe a person has the right to defend him or herself with a gun outside that person’s home.
In no way, does this make Florida an apartheid state.
