Illinois Representative, Jesse Jackson Jr. is in rehab for drugs and alcohol according to a tweet from NBC’s Andrea Mitchell.
CBS News reported today that Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., D-Ill., is currently being treated for a “mood disorder”, his doctor’s office said Thursday.
“The Congressman is receiving intensive medical treatment at a residential treatment facility for a mood disorder,” a statement from his physician said. “He is responding positively to treatment and is expected to make a full recovery.”
That’s not like drugs and alcohol, it’s a “mood disorder” so that’s okay then.
He has been missing since June 10th. On June 26th, his office reported that he was taking a medical leave of absence for “exhaustion.”
On July 5th, his office announced that his condition is “more serious than initially believed” and that he is being treated at an “in-patient facility.” His office added, “Recently we have been made aware that he has grappled with certain physical and emotional ailments privately for a long period of time. According to the preliminary diagnosis from his doctors, Congressman Jackson will need to receive extended in-patient treatment as well as continuing medical treatment thereafter.”
Turns out he was “resting” in rehab for his “ailments.” He was so exhausted that he decided to go to a drug and alcohol facility.
Needing rehab is one thing but lying about it is very off-putting. Jackson’s wife said she is consulting with her husband’s doctors before releasing a statement and his father said it would be inappropriate to comment.
Jesse Jackson Jr. is the subject of an ethics investigation related to Illinois’ imprisoned former governor Rod Blagojevich. The ethics complaint is “to determine whether he pressured a friend to raise millions for disgraced former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich in exchange for Blagojevich naming Jackson to President Obama’s former Senate seat.,” per CBS News
He was never indicted on the criminal complaint and evidence leading to his guilt never went further than the media. His aide was heard on FBI tapes discussing the buying of the seat on Jackson’s behalf.
