Jonathan Gruber, one of the architects of Obamacare has filed an amicus brief on behalf of the government in two federal cases, swearing that the government always meant to have the federal government pay out subsidies. Four cases are contesting that issue and at least one is using Jonathan Gruber’s own words to rebut government expert Jonathan Gruber. It will eventually makes its way to the Supreme Court of the United States.
It gets even worse than that, the partisan hack “helped” the supposedly nonpartisan CBO concoct their numbers which helped sell Obamacare to the public as cost effective. That discovery comes from investigative writer Rich Weinstein on Colossus of Rhodey.
In 2012, on multiple occasions, Gruber told the truth. He said, quite clearly that the federal government, as the law is written, would NOT pay subsidies. Now Gruber is saying his words in 2012 were just a speak-o…a typo out of his mouth in other words. He uttered multiple speak-os as it turns out.
If you lie, you can now euphemistically call it a speak-o so no one figures out you lied. Your mouth simply misspoke without your full knowledge and consent.
“Oh, what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive.” ~ Sir Walter Scott, Marmion
Jonathan Gruber made remarks on several occasions that completely contradict the Obama administration’s legal argument in Halbig v. Burwell and three related lawsuits. He contradicts his own amicus briefs filed in two of these cases.
A Forbes article from the 29th reads, “Oklahoma AG Cites Jonathan Gruber To Rebut Government Expert Jonathan Gruber (Pruitt v. Burwell)”.
Oh my, how embarrassing. Now the speak-o is on the legal record and it’s likely heading for the Supreme Court of the United States where it will be enshrined in perpetuity.
The article was written by Michael Cannon of the Cato Institute. He quotes Oklahoma AG Scott Pruitt:
“Defendants themselves relied on evidence from Professor Gruber in an attempt to show the supposed “implausibility” of Congress having made something as important as the subsidies hinge on the States’ willingness to establish exchanges. Plainly, this newly-discovered evidence squarely controverts Defendants’ evidence on this point, and establishes that it is far from “implausible” that the drafters or Section 36B intended to withhold tax credits and subsidies from states who declined to set up exchanges in order to place pressure on those states to set up exchanges. To the contrary, it is not only plausible, it now appears to be demonstrably true.”
Aside from embarrassing, Gruber proves the case for the government’s opponents. How are lib judges going to rationalize this one?
It’s a sorry state of affairs on our government stage today. Even the understudies are liars.
Rich Weinstein who first discovered the original Gruber video, uncovered the startling fact that the allegedly NONPARTISAN CBO concocted its numbers for Obamacare with help – very partisan help – from the very partisan Gruber.
Trash in, trash out.
The most massive redistribution of wealth and health services in U.S. history was based on even more fraud and deceit than we knew apparently.
Check out this video, described by many on Twitchy as brutal though not as brutal as having one’s speak-o bandied about by Supreme Court Justices if the case makes it there:
