Tens of Thousands of illegal immigrants lined up throughout the country to apply for Obama’s DREAM Act amnesty. Many of the illegal immigrants, self-named DREAMers, will undoubtedly apply for public assistance and IDs though the directive does not allow for it. Jan Brewer of Arizona is the only governor to publicly bar them from receiving benefits and driver’s licenses.
Obama’s amnesty directive is aimed at youths who were brought to the country illegally before they were 16 through no fault of their own. People up to age 31 can apply.
Under Obama’s directive, eligible illegals will be able to apply for college grants and loans which are ultimately the responsibility of taxpayers. If illegal immigrants borrow money for school and go back to their country of origin, how do we collect what they owe us? President Obama doesn’t worry about that and that should tell us something.
They will also be able to take our jobs while unemployment is at 8.3%.
In many states, illegals will receive driver’s licenses which will enable them to vote.
Open borders groups such as LaRaza are holding instructional workshops in major cities and they are pushing people to apply.
These are the same people that Obama would say are incapable of obtaining Photo ID’s though they have no problem applying for the two-year amnesty and paying the $465 application fee.
As many as 1.8 million are believed to be eligible for the amnesty.
Fox News reports that the $350 million in costs for the program will be on the American taxpayer.
This cynical move by Obama is illegal and unconstitutional but Obama does whatever he wants and it’s a vote getter.
This isn’t the first time that Obama enacted laws not passed by Congress. His administration is writing rules to convert healthcare into a single payer system as one current example. Read here.
On August 15th, Judicial Watch filed a lawsuit against the DOJ and DHS to obtain records that back up their legal right to enact the amnesty program.
Judicial Watch requested the documents with an FOIA request in June which the DOJ has said they received. The DOJ has not complied with the request.
The suit states:
All records concerning…the Department of Homeland Security’s decision to exercise prosecutorial discretion with respect to individuals who came to the United States as children…Such records include, but are not limited to, opinions, memoranda, or legal advice rendered by the Office of Legal Counsel.
Judicial Watch believes the Obama administration is running roughshod over the constitution and immigration law.
Back in June, Rep. Steven King said he plans to sue:
Heritage, a conservative think tank, and two union leaders representing immigration agents have said there will be no verification of documents and the applicants will game the system. There is no punishment for fraudulent statements on the documentation the illegals provide. [Undoubtedly, criminal illegals will take advantage of the opportunity – count on it.]
Report from the Sunshine State News
President Obama’s unilateral decision to implement parts of the failed DREAM Act legislation has allowed “dreamers” to game the system and stay in the U.S. illegally, according to two union leaders representing immigration agents.
Chris Crane, who represents Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers, explained at a press conference:
“Prosecutorial discretion for dreamers is solely based on the individual’s claims. Our orders are if an alien says they went to high school, then let them go. … Officers have been told that there is no burden for the alien to prove anything. … At this point we don’t even know why [the Department of Homeland Security] has criteria at all, as there is no requirement or burden to prove anything on the part of the alien.”
George McCubbin, president of the National Border Patrol Council union, added that the Department of Homeland Security has made it impossible for agents to do their jobs, with Crane stating that it’s led to disorganization and “confusion” at ICE.
Obama via executive branch fiat has granted effective amnesty to any illegal immigrant who claims that he or she came to America as a child. With no way to verify such a claim, America’s immigration enforcement officers are left powerless to enforce the actual immigration laws passed by Congress and signed by a president.
Beyond the practical problems, as Heritage previously stated about the Obama administration’s imperial immigration policy:
“The fundamental problem is that the administration is trying to implement laws that Congress hasn’t passed. The president himself has admitted that he doesn’t have the constitutional authority to implement the DREAM Act: ‘The idea of doing things on my own is very tempting, I promise you, not just on immigration reform. But that’s not how our system works.'”…
