He’s baaack, the candidate for president who won less than 1% of the vote.
Lindsey Graham hates Donald Trump, of that there is little doubt. He has disseminated more vitriol against him than most Democrats. He’s called him a racist, nativist and accused him of potentially bringing about the next 9/11. Many would disagree and consider the RINO war hawk the one more likely to bring about a catastrophe.
The South Carolina Republican Senator is now baiting and warning President-elect Donald Trump should he try to eliminate one of President Obama’s immigration programs, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), frequently called the Dream Act. This was one of Obama’s executive orders and Trump has vowed to cancel them upon entering office.
“Here is a problem that we have: You’ve got about a million DREAM Act kids who came here as small children, lived here all their lives. Now they have legal status by executive order,” Graham told reporters Tuesday, according to BizPacReview.
The problem with the DREAM Act (DACA) is it did not go through Congress and became a fiat which is not what is supposed to happen in a Republic. Congress doesn’t want to stand up for what they believe in because it might go against their electorate who voted them in to represent them.
The DREAM Act allows people who arrived in America illegally as children work authorization and protection from deportation if they meet the program’s requirements.
They also receive government benefits and college grants.
Next up is the DAPA and the reason to keep that is to keep families together, Democrats and RINOs declare. That allows for federal benefits and chain migration.
Graham will stand in the way of any move that affects DREAMers. One problem with DREAMers is they weren’t vetted and some lied about their age and when at what age they arrived in the United States. It worked on the honor system.
“I will not vote for a bill that doesn’t, that quite frankly, treats a grandmother and drug dealer the same,” he said. “I will vote for border security.”
For now, Trump is only talking about deporting criminal illegal aliens and then he will work on border security.
Trump has, prior to his election, promised to end Sanctuary Cities policies.
“What we are going to do is get the people that are criminal and have criminal records, gang members, drug dealers,” Trump told CBS. “After the border is secured and after everything gets normalized, we’re going to make a determination on the people that you’re talking about who are terrific people.”
That’s not the only thing on Graham’s agenda, he’s also asked Congress to investigate Russia’s possible meddling in the elections.
He is proposing that Congress hold a series of hearings on “Russia’s misadventures throughout the world” — including whether they were involved in “hacking into the DNC.”
“Were they involved in cyberattacks that had a political component to it in our elections?” Graham said.
If so, Graham said, “Putin should be punished.”
U.S. officials allege that Russia was involved in the hack on the Democratic National Committee that resulted in the release of sensitive emails ahead of the election.
Both Senators McCain and Graham have warned Trump against a friendly alliance with Putin or Assad.
When the Wikileaks scandal arose, he railed against the ‘crime’ of stealing documents and blamed Russia. He is friendly with the Clintons by his own admission.
In December of last year, Sen. Graham said he would work with Hillary Clinton on a range of issues if she became president in exchange for concessions on fighting the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.
“If she’s willing to be more robust in terms of destroying ISIL, I’d give her political cover,” Graham said. “If she wanted to be more muscular in her foreign policy, I would try to help her.”
He sounds less cooperative with Donald Trump, especially since Trump does plan to be more “muscular” in fighting ISIS.
