Happy Holidays, the Grinch is in DC, ready to destroy more business and bring down our economy even further and it’s going to cost every American just so Big Government can expand its control. They’re going to control your dishwashers!
Commissar Valerie Jarrett warned that Obama’s Year 8 would be a year just full of surprises. We are now getting an idea of what that means. Barack released his final rule making schedule to force through his legacy fiats. It was released, as always right before the holiday when people are busy. The Daily Signal posted the schedule of his regulation announcements (which he has to do by law), and, at least since 2012, they’ve always been right before a holiday. You’ll remember that 2012 was the year he was re-elected and he had more “flexibility.”
He introduced 144 new regs of “economic significance”, in other words, they will cost US taxpayers $100 million more each, and there are 2,000 regs total in the hopper. He has more than a year left in office, I need not remind you.
It will be much harder to get rid of rules than executive orders, policy memorandums, and guidance issuances.
Obama passed one rule a day since coming to office, costing businesses $700 billion. The economy can’t grow under this control freak. He wants to cement these painful, expensive, and unnecessary restrictions in place.
One of the rules he wants finalized is having the government decide what pay a CEO gets and tying it to performance. Businesses do this anyway and its none of his business. They do things like this in socialist countries.
Rules will cover food safety, drones, electronic cigarettes, silica dust, health and safety, financial reforms, rules for importers, fossil fuels, et al, the hill reported. Guns could be on the list.
The regulations span the full scope of American life, ranging from labeling requirements for pet food, new test procedures for battery chargers, mandated paid sick leave for contractors, and automatic speed limiters for trucks to a dozen new rules limiting energy use (and increasing the price) of everything from furnaces and dishwashers to dehumidifiers. They even have their eye on the light in your refrigerator.
One of these new rules may be of special interest to Americans sitting down to their Thanksgiving dinner: mandated labeling of serving sizes for food that “can reasonably be consumed at one eating occasion.”
The administration is running out of time and they know it. Their schedule shows they are on a rule mandate spree in 2016.
The Clean Power Plan to destroy power plants is on speed.
There will be more net neutrality rules making the Internet into a utility without question.
In a hat tip to socialist unions, Obama will force contractors to disclose labor law violations when procuring contracts so the government can destroy the business of those who don’t kowtow to unions.
Manufacturers are very worried.
Every agency is feverishly working on creating eternally binding rules that are hastily woven into every department.
The speed at which it is being done means it also being done badly.
Heritage has an article detailing the unprecedented burden in 2014: The number and cost of government regulations continued to climb in 2014, intensifying Washington’s control over the economy and Americans’ lives. The addition of 27 new major rules last year pushed the tally for the Obama Administration’s first six years to 184, with scores of other rules in the pipeline. The cost of just these 184 rules is estimated by regulators to be nearly $80 billion annually, although the actual cost of this massive expansion of the administrative state is obscured by the large number of rules for which costs have not been fully quantified. Absent substantial reform, economic growth and individual freedom will continue to suffer.
Without economic freedom, I don’t have to tell you, you’re not free, period.
