Mahmoud Abbas, in league with the terror group Hamas, will attempt to bring Israelis before the International Criminal Court. Netanyahu will not allow it.
Last Friday, Palestinian Ambassador to the UN Riyad Mansour asked to join 22 international treaties including the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The Rome Statute, the rounding treaty of the ICC, prosecutes individuals accused of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes committed since July 1, 2002.
The Palestinian Authority were permitted to join and the documents were signed by Mahmoud Abbas.
After submitting the documents, Mansour submitted a letter of complaint over alleged Israeli war crimes during last summer’s conflict.
Mahmoud Abbas (pictured below) says the Jewish settlements – building of homes in Jewish land – are war crimes. They also want to go back in time and dig up what they believe are atrocities.
The U.N. and the U.S. have told Israel they cannot build in their own land if it’s land Palestinians want.
The Palestinians/Hamas dug tunnels into Israel last summer in an attempt to launch a disastrous attack against them. They repeatedly bombed Israel. They have been bombing Israel. Israel retaliated but placed calls and sent emails and texts to the Palestinians warning them about impending attacks. It didn’t matter to the U.N. They hate Israel.
Previous to this, Secretary of State John Kerry has warned Israel that if they don’t cede lands won in 1967 prior to any concessions from the Palestinian Authority, the U.S. would not support them.
Ceding those lands leaves parts of Israel indefensible. Doing it with nothing in return is typical of an Obama negotiated agreement but not that of sane world leaders.
Prime Minister Netanyahu responded last week and said he expects the ICC in The Hague to reject the “hypocritical application.”
“The Palestinian Authority is an entity that maintains an alliance with a terrorist organization, Hamas, which commits war crimes,” Netanyahu added. “The state of Israel is a lawful country with a moral army that enforces all international laws. We will protect IDF soldiers as they protect us.”
The Daily Star reports that on Sunday, Netanyahu said he will not permit Israel’s soldiers to be hauled in front of the ICC.
“We will not let [Israeli army] soldiers and officers be dragged to the International Criminal Court in The Hague,” Netanyahu said at the start of the weekly cabinet meeting, two days after the Palestinians filed an application to become a party to the court.
Israel froze the transfer of tax revenues to the Palestinian Authority as a first move in a series of punitive steps according to the Star.
“The Palestinian Authority has chosen to take a path of confrontation with Israel, and we will not sit idly by,” Netanyahu warned, vowing to defend Israeli military personnel from possible prosecution by the court.
“[Israeli army] soldiers will continue to defend Israel with determination and strength — and as they defend us, we will defend them, with the same determination and the same strength,” Netanyahu said.
He said the Palestinian leadership should be put on trial before the ICC for signing a 2014 reconciliation agreement with the Islamist Hamas movement which led to the establishment of a national consensus government.
“Those who should face justice are the heads of the Palestinian Authority who signed a covenant with the war criminals of Hamas,” he said.
The U.S. under Barack Obama has demanded Israel negotiate with the terrorist group Hamas by demanding an agreement with their partner Abbas. They have also said that Hamas isn’t influencing Abbas.
Before 1948, there was no Palestine. The land was a passageway for Arabs. They were Arabs who were no different culturally, historically or ethnically from other Arabs. Many in fact came from Saudi Arabia.
No nation other than Israel has ever ruled as a sovereign national entity of the land. Palestine was not a state.
The term Palestine itself came from the Roman Empire when they conquered Israel and attempted to obliterate the Jewish presence from the land.
Abbas has been critical of Israel for only offering land that is a fraction of Palestine. However, historic Palestine included Israel, the West Bank and all of Jordan today. Israel and its disputed territories are 22% of Palestine.
The U.N. wants Israel to accept only 12% of its current land mass and have no buffer from their enemies which Israel was prepared to do before they were attacked in 1967.
Of the 9 million Palestinians worldwide, three-quarters of them live in historic Palestine.
Nations like Saudi Arabia have conspired against peace. A large faction of the royal family, catering to their terrorists to the south and east of the country, have been funding efforts to derail any chance of peace. After September 11, the Treasury Department found financial transactions linking the Saudi charities in the U.S. directly to Osama bin Laden.
None of the Arab nations have offered land though Palestinians came from as many as 24 Arab nations.
The ICC, comprised of a large number of African nations, often appears to be used to advance the political objectives of powerful states. They’re supposed to be independent. The UN Security Council can empower the ICC to investigate but Russia, China and the U.S. have not joined the ICC out of concern it would be political. World leaders get away with systematic murder and the court does nothing. States that submit complaints often drop them if political circumstances change.
Nations wanted to try George Bush and Barack Obama for war crimes. The ICC is not our friend and the court would end up superseding our constitution if we subscribe to it. We would be making the international court into the decision maker if we buy into it.
