The more one looks into the Nigerian situation, the more one finds out that it could have been avoided, making it all that much more tragic. What has also come to light is that Hillary Clinton failed to see the danger in Boko Haram and refused to classify them a terrorist group. She was as unprepared for Boko Haram as she was for Benghazi.
The Nigerian government knew about the upcoming assault by Boko Haram on the Chibok boarding school 4 hours in advance and did nothing according to London-based Amnesty International.
More than 240 girls were kidnapped and have since been reportedly been raped, tortured, and possibly sold into slavery, according to some reports.
“The fact that Nigerian security forces knew about Boko Haram’s impending raid, but failed to take the immediate action needed to stop it, will only amplify the national and international outcry at this horrific crime,” Netsanet Belay, Amnesty International’s Africa director, research and advocacy, said today in a statement.
“It amounts to a gross dereliction of Nigeria’s duty to protect civilians, who remain sitting ducks for such attacks. The Nigerian leadership must now use all lawful means at their disposal to secure the girls’ safe release and ensure nothing like this can happen again.”
It is not only Nigeria that has fallen down on the job.
Though it is not directly the job of the United States, our Secretary of State failed to see them as a threat as recently as two years ago, a mistake that prevented the US from asserting its influence over the group’s terror activities. The US has entirely ignored the pogrom against Christians which is what Boko Haram is about in part. Their other stated mission is to keep children, especially girls, from being educated.
According to a Daily Beast article, two years ago, when Boko Haram were well on the way to waging a campaign of terror and killings of Christians in Northeastern Nigeria, Hillary Clinton refused to label them a terrorist group and did so on more than one occasion.
At the time, State Department officials argued such a move could cause more harm than good by enhancing the group’s standing and making U.S. and Western interests a target of Boko Haram attacks.
Daily Beast senior correspondent Josh Rogin reported Wednesday that other government agencies, including the CIA, along with more than a dozen members of Congress had urged the State Department when Clinton was Secretary of State to officially designate the Nigerian Islamist group a terrorist organization.
“The one thing she could have done, the one tool she had at her disposal, she didn’t use. And nobody can say she wasn’t urged to do it. It’s gross hypocrisy,” a former senior U.S. official who was involved in the debate told the Daily Beast. “The FBI, the CIA, and the Justice Department really wanted Boko Haram designated, they wanted the authorities that would provide to go after them, and they voiced that repeatedly to elected officials.”
After more than 3,000 murders, John Kerry, in November 2013, declared Boko Haram a terrorist group.
President Barack Obama this week called Nigeria’s Boko Haram group “one of the worst regional or local terrorist organizations.”
Clinton has been voicing her opinion on the kidnapping, saying that “it’s criminal”, “terrorism”, and “everything possible must be done.”

It’s reminiscent of her handling of Benghazi. She refused to provide the proper support for the mission in Benghazi. Some of those directly connected to Benghazi have said the administration didn’t want to upset the locals and wanted the appearance of peace in Benghazi after Obama’s “successful” war. As an aside, it is now revealed that Tim Geithner recommended Hillary Clinton for Secretary of the Treasury despite the fact that she has absolutely no background for the job. She might be our next president and she has no experience for that job either, much as Barack Obama didn’t.
