Lois Lerner weasel of the week

Photo of IRS’ infamous weasel, Lois Lerner

Lois Lerner, the head of the tax-exempt office who supervised the targeting of tea party groups, sent emails that were recently released by Congress which show she diverted the cases from Cincinnati while Congress was being told by he IRS that the targeting was the result of ‘rogue agents’ in Cincinnati. She is on PAID leave.

Lerner directed the cases be held up in 2011 in order to come up with an agency policy. She saw how ‘dangerous’ they could be to the left and the election.

In one 2011 email, she writes, “Tea Party Matter very dangerous,’ these applications could be the ‘vehicle to go to court’ to get more clarity on a 2010 Supreme Court ruling on campaign finance rules. [Citizens United]

The strong insinuation is that there was targeting of conservative groups.

In a 2012 email, she admits the IRS bungled the tax-exempt applications and the problem has been corrected. She wrote, ‘It is what it is…Although the original story isn’t as pretty as we’d like, once we learned [that we were] off track, we have done what we can to change the process, better educate our staff and move the cases. So, we will get dinged, but we took steps before the ‘dingling’ to make things better and we have written procedures.’

She knew they went too far while telling Congress there was no special scrutiny.

In another 2012 email, she appears to take sides against the conservatives, writing, ‘perhaps the FEC will save the day.’

The Obama administration is NOT investigating though Mr. Obama promised he would. The FBI has not questioned one victim of the targeting. They are in fact stonewalling, delaying, lying, and obstructing.

The House is investigating but many Democratic Representatives claim that there is no proof there was targeting and they want the investigation ended. Democratic Senator Levin said there is no proof.

If we didn’t have a Republican-controlled House, there would be no investigation whatsoever.

The IRS obviously targeted conservative groups while not giving the same weight to similar groups on the left. Only six similar groups on the left were scrutinized and they were quickly moved through to acceptance. Hundreds of conservative groups were held up, many have still not been processed, and groups on the right are still being targeted (see video at Fox News)

Greta Van Susteren weighs in:

You might remember this video in which Lerner admits she was pressured to ‘fix the problem.’
