The government wants to control the manufacture, sale and possession of guns and they are starting with assault weapons.
They know that assault weapons are not the cause of gun homicides. This begs the question – is this the prelude to the confiscation of the weapon most commonly used in gun homicides – handguns?
They are fully ready to confiscate guns while claiming they are not.
An internal DOJ memo uncovered by the NRA states that the government plans to limit all importation, manufacture, sale and possession of large capacity magazines:
In order to have an impact, large capacity magazine regulation needs to sharply curtail their availability to include restrictions on importation, manufacture, sale, and possession. An exemption for previously owned magazines would nearly eliminate any impact.
The memo asserts that assault weapons are not the major cause of the gun crimes and a ban on them would have little impact, especially given the fact that it would take decades to deplete the supply.
They therefore suggest that gun confiscation is the way to go:
Since assault weapons are not a major contributor to US gun homicide and the existing stock of guns is large, an assault weapon ban is unlikely to have an impact on gun violence. If coupled with a gun buyback and no exemptions then it could be effective. [Bold by editor]
They want mandatory gun registration of all firearms. This would be a prelude to confiscating other guns.

Of course the government wants to eventually confiscate ALL guns, not just SOME.
It’s that darn 2nd Amendment that’s creating the problems so they have to become creative.
The Federal gov’t has consistently been guilty of restricting our rights. The TSA sets aside the 4th Amendment. Some on the Left in Congress want to limit the 1st Amendment. The attacks on the 2nd Amendment have never let up and are gaining steam.
The Battle of Athens, TN in 1946 was fought by law-abiding citizens against a corrupt local government. The citizens won, thanks to the 2nd Amendment. That is ITS purpose.
Without the 2nd Amendment, the citizens of America would become serfs.

You’re all over it, Fred. The plan seems to be to go after the rifles and shotguns first, and then when that doesn’t seem to reduce “gun crimes”, go after the handguns. I’d bet a lot of money on that being the case. The ultimate goal – which will never, ever be realized – is to disarm the entire country.

To me, “..a gun buyback and no exemptions” means the government would buy all of my weapons and there would be no exemptions. There would be no choice given; you hand them over – “no exemptions”.

Yes, I agree – a “gun buyback” without exceptions is EXACTLY what we would call gun confiscation.
Look, it’s really a no-brainer. We have VIDEO and AUDIO of Obama pre-2008 stating that he does not believe anyone should own guns.
We have video of Holder essentially saying that people need to be brainwashed into believing that guns do not help.
The truth is that if the 2nd Amendment did not exist, I’m quite certain Obama would have already started taking guns away.
New York’s Gov. Cuomo publicly stated that gun control COULD include confiscation and so far, the legislature in NY has been moving to make that happen. The latest salvo is a bill introduced by Felix Ortiz (D-Brooklyn) who wants to force gun owners to purchase $1 million dollars worth of liability insurance, which will cost between $1600 to $2000 per year. This would apply to individuals who are simply COLLECTORS of guns and never shoot them.
The Left is doing whatever they can to make it impossible for the average law-abiding citizen to purchase guns and ammo, which will effectively make the 2nd Amendment MOOT.
I find it interesting that our government is buying up BILLIONS of rounds of ammo and just put in an order for 7,000 “assault” weapons (ARs). They say that these ARs are good “defensive” weapons, but apparently, not good for law-abiding citizens to own them.
Beyond this, we KNOW that not one new law that is passed will have ANY effect on criminals at all. They will continue to obtain their weapons and ammo illegally.
If allowed, our federal government will be guilty of leaving us citizens defenseless and at the mercy of the criminal element.
Of course, I guess we could always start carrying scissors and a rape whistle. Yeah, that’ll work.

As an aside, the AR-15 has been sold legally in the United States since 1963 – 50 years – a half-century – and now it’s an “assault weapon”? I chuckle every time I see that.
I own two rifles, in particular, that are far superior to the AR-15 and neither of them is on “the list” presented by Senator Feinstein. I guess they’ll get picked up in the second wave.

I write a lot, mainly at my own blog – studygrowknowblog.com and lately I seem to dealing with the 2nd Amendment a lot.
I agree with you. I’ve thought about getting an AR just because the government doesn’t want me to have one, but frankly, I’d prefer other guns. I have a couple of rifles that are a lot of fun to shoot at target practice.
I used to live in California and the restrictions for gun owners were (and are) ridiculous. I still cannot believe that state has their “DOJ Approved Handgun list” and if the gun you want is not on that list, you can’t get it.
Now, of course, with Feinstein (who, as you probably know, carries concealed) and her list, she also wants to eliminate all ammo purchases not done in person. If they pass that, then soon enough, I can see them limiting the amount of ammo a person is allowed to buy per month.
I think the biggest problem this country has is that there are way too many people who do not understand that America is a Constitutional Republic, NOT a Democracy. They don’t know that, nor do they understand the difference.

The Seattle law which included annual home inspections of “assault” weapon owners without a warrant is now being labeled a “mistake.” It was a meager 8 page bill. They put it in,not mistakenly, but because they wanted to send off a trial balloon and also get us used to the idea. It’s a brainwashing technique.
The statists want us to believe we are conspiratorial or crazy – we mustn’t fall for that when something is as plain as the nose on our face.
