The IRS has an enemies list and they will soon have your healthcare in their hands. Do people realize how serous this targeting of conservatives by the IRS really is?
We found out about this one case but can you imagine what IRS scandals we don’t know about?
Mitch McConnell believes there is much more and it isn’t limited to the IRS. “The Obama effort to shut up opponents isn’t limited to the IRS,” he stated. “It applies to the FCC [Federal Communications Commission], SEC [Securities and Exchange Commission], FEC [Federal Elections Commission], HHS [Department of Health and Human Services] …. And you remember, the Obama campaign last year published a list of eight businessmen who it believed were enemies.”
McConnell is also concerned about the Department of Health and Human Services which has been contacting [bullying] businesses “skeptical about the implementation of Obamacare and asking them to contribute money to sell the program to the American people. That’s absolutely improper if not illegal. This administration will stop at nothing to get its way. It will do anything it can to silence its critics.”
President Obama said the targeting is outrageous “if” it happened. That is disingenuous since the IRS officials said it did happen and they apologized for it. Obama said he only learned it on Friday when we all learned about it. Shouldn’t he have known about it in 2011 when the IRS found out about it?
President Obama is cleverly trying to excise himself from responsibility but the IRS/Treasury is an arm of the Executive Branch.
Actually, it is more than outrageous – it is illegal for the IRS to target people. That is the case since Nixon was impeached for trying to use the IRS for his own purposes as spelled out in his articles of impeachment:
“He has, acting personally and through his subordinates and agents, endeavored to . . .cause, in violation of the constitutional rights of citizens, income tax audits or other income tax investigations to be initiated or conducted in a discriminatory manner.”
— Article II, Section 1, Articles of Impeachment against Richard M. Nixon, adopted by the House Judiciary Committee, July 29, 1974
Lois Lerner, who apologized last week, knew of the illegal targeting by at least June 29, 2011 and that there were discussions with chief counsel about this issue on August 4, 2011. [aclj]
The Chief Counsel is a political appointee, an Obama political appointee. Why didn’t they stop the targeting then?
In the end, Obama is responsible for the IRS.
The IRS has apologized but they haven’t told the groups they would stop investigating them.
Groups targeted included those with “9/12 Project,” “patriot,” and “Tea Party” in their name. The IRS also targeted groups who want limited government, who were interested in the Bill of Rights, the Constitution, and who were critical of the government.
The conservative, pro-Israel group, Z-Street, filed a lawsuit two-and-a-half years ago against the IRS for targeting them.
The IRS wants us to believe a few low-level employees did this though the high-level political appointees knew about it in 2011 and did nothing about it.
Daily Caller posted an article suggesting that the IRS might have also leaked information to progressive groups.
In a 2012 speech, Sen. Mitch McConnell noted, “The head of one national advocacy group has released documents which show that his group’s confidential IRS information found its way into the hands of a staunch critic on the Left who also happens to be a co-chairman of President Obama’s re-election committee. The only way this information could have been made public is if someone leaked it from inside the IRS.”
CNN put an article up a minute before I posted on this topic and it ended with this: “It shouldn’t need to be said: Even the tea party deserves First Amendment protection.” CNN is not biased, are they?
