Is there a portrait of Marxist Saul Alinsky hanging in the White House? Reporter Ed Henry asked Jay Carney just that at a briefing on Monday. Henry said, “I wonder if you could clear something up…Newt Gingrich keeps saying on the campaign trail that the President’s vision comes from Saul Alinsky, the community organizer. I haven’t heard you asked about him but… Is there some kind of portrait of him hanging up in the White House that people look up to or is this BS?”
Carney’s response was not encouraging but certainly expected, “Look,” Carney said. “The President’s background as a community organizer (Editor’s note: Alinsky viewed organizing as revolution) is well documented in his own books. His experience in that field contributed to who he is today. But his experiences abroad also included alot of other areas in his life. So I’ll just leave it at that.”
Never in my lifetime, did I ever think that the President of the United States, would ever admire, emulate and claim to be a disciple of an ultra liberal, socialist!! President Obama, in his OWN autobiography, has described this relationship with Chicago’s renowned radical activist, Mr Saul Alinsky!
I’m sure, after you heard about this association on channels 2, 4, and 7 (just kidding). You understand why issues like this, issues that would not ingratiate Obama with the great majority of Americans, are routinely avoided by the mainstream media. I’m sure that all of you have never read Mr. Alinsky’s books nor have even heard of him before the current Presidency ( I never did !! ) – so a little background information may be useful (again thank goodness for the Wall Street Journal!)
Mr Alinsky, who died in 1963, was a Chicago-born, “social movement organizer,” who loved controversy and instigated hostile reactions as a way to promote his socialistic vision of America. His books included: “Reveille for Radicals” and “Rules For Radicals.” He did not believe in violence, his approach was purely verbal. He ignored the political system and felt that only through “heavy pressure” could his radical, socialistic agenda be implemented.
But exactly what is this Alinsky-Obama connection that Newt Gingrich has mentioned in the debates?
In 1985, then Mr Obama was working for the Developing Communities Project, an Alinsky affiliate. After Harvard Law School, while teaching contitutional law at the University of Chicago, he advised community groups about Alinsky’s political methods.
In an article he wrote in the New Republic in 2007, he fully described his own Alinsky political agenda! To “soften” this political philosophy, (Obama NEVER repudiated it ), Obama campaign officials said that the President rejected Alinsky’s confrontational tactics and the President now favors working within the political system to effect change! Boy, does that statement really make me feel better!
During the last campaign, when we first met Mr Obama and read his own autobiography, he made no effort to hide any of his political philosophy (Saul Alinsky) or his friends, mentors, and acquaintances (Rev. Wright, Bill Ayers, etc.) or his experience as a community organizer.
I, and many other Americans, just “assumed” that his leftwing, socialist, government controlling vision for America, would be somehow modified or discarded for a more moderate, middle of the road approach. I made the classic Obama mistake, I listened to what he said and ignored what he wrote and did !! I WAS SO WRONG!!!
Fool me once, it’s you !! Fool me a second time, IT’S ME!
9 months 13 days til the election!
Read about Saul Alinsky, also a favorite of Hillary Cinton’s, here and here.
The Boston Globe reported that Saul Alinsky’s son complimented Obama on having learned his father’s lessons well –
“ALL THE elements were present: the individual stories told by real people of their situations and hardships, the packed-to-the rafters crowd, the crowd’s chanting of key phrases and names, the action on the spot of texting and phoning to show instant support and commitment to jump into the political battle, the rallying selections of music, the setting of the agenda by the power people. The Democratic National Convention had all the elements of the perfectly organized event, Saul Alinsky style.
I am proud to see that my father’s model for organizing is being applied successfully beyond local community organizing to affect the Democratic campaign in 2008. It is a fine tribute to Saul Alinsky as we approach his 100th birthday.”
