Even though President Barack Obama really has “deep affinities” for the Israeli people [he really likes them, he really does], he said no nuclear deal will be contingent on Iran recognizing Israel. This is days after an Iranian commander said Iran would destroy Israel – it was “nonnegotiable.”
On Monday, the president responded to an Israeli demand that a nuclear deal between world powers and Iran be predicated on Tehran recognizing Israel.
“The notion that we would condition Iran not getting nuclear weapons in a verifiable deal on Iran recognizing Israel is really akin to saying that we won’t sign a deal unless the nature of the Iranian regime completely transforms,” Obama told National Public Radio during an interview Monday.
We can’t expect Iran to not want to destroy Israel of course.
The president said this weekend that he feels deep affinities for the Israeli people, the Jewish people.
He won’t ask for the U.S. citizens in Iranian prisons either. That too is too much to ask.
