President Obama sent me an email to let me know he would not give his weekly address because he is going to exploit the parents of a murdered Newtown child in order to infringe on our Second Amendment rights.
Hello, everybody —
Each week, like many presidents before me, I sit down to record a short address to the nation. It’s something I take very seriously because it offers a chance to bring focus to an issue that needs to be part of the national dialogue.
But today, I’ve asked someone to take my place.
Francine Wheeler is a mother. She and her family live in Newtown, Connecticut. Four months ago, her six year-old son Ben was murdered in his elementary school, along with 19 other children and six brave educators.
Joined by her husband David, Francine shares her perspective about the steps we can take to reduce gun violence and prevent the kind of tragedy she understands all too well…
Obama is also using taxpayer dollars to fund his anti-Second Amendment fight. Here’s another sample of an email I received on the subject:
Hello, all —
For the first time since the 1990s, Congress might be on track to pass legislation aimed at reducing gun violence in the United States. And it’s because folks in Washington are starting to understand that the rest of the country isn’t going to sit by and let them ignore this issue. Your voices are the reason we have a chance to win this debate. The American people expect and demand a yes or no vote.
But this is a critical moment. It’s been almost four months since the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, thousands more Americans have died at the hands of gun violence, and time is on the side of those who would prefer that we do nothing.
We want to make sure that your voices are impossible to ignore. So we’re asking people from all over the country to speak out online in concert — all at the same time. Will you join us?…
When he’s not exploiting or misusing tax dollars, Obama’s campaign arm, Organizing for Action, is using the Newtown tragedy to fund raise. Part of the email I received follows:
This week, two U.S. senators, a Democrat and a Republican with “A” ratings from the NRA, introduced a bill to close loopholes in background checks for all commercial gun sales.
Let that sink in for a minute. Millions of Americans have demanded action, and Congress is listening.
Now that we’ve got legislation, the next step is passing it. And no surprise here: Allies of the gun lobby are threatening to block a vote. You can be damn sure they’re going to do the same thing if the bill makes it to the House, too.
OFA is taking the gun lobby head on. We won’t stand by silently while the families in Newtown, Aurora, and Tucson grieve. So many people have worked tirelessly for congressional action.
We won’t let Congress forget.
Chip in $5 or more today — and let’s get this done..
Obama is not trying to stop gun violence where the problem lies. If he were, he’d promote “stop and frisk” throughout the nation’s gang areas and go after illegal guns. He would look into the nation’s drug problem. He would encourage local and state governments to enforce the laws they already have.
He is not doing any of that because what Obama really wants is to infringe on the rights of legal gun owners.
