Obama’s Failed Foreign Policy in Iraq Sets the Stage for Another 9/11

President Obama said today, during a joint press conference with the Australian Prime Minister, that he is considering engaging in military strikes against Al-Qaeda in Iraq after a request was made by Prime Minister Maliki. It is unlikely he will follow through and, even if by some chance he does, it is unlikely he will follow through in a timely manner, based on his prior performance.

We have aircraft ready to go if he chooses to help Iraq but he has not made a decision yet.

o can you hear me know

The Iraqis have been pleading for help all year and their pleas have fallen on deaf ears.

“Iraqi officials at the highest level said they had requested manned and unmanned U.S. airstrikes this year against ISIS (the extremist Al-Qaeda group) camps in the Jazira desert,” said Kenneth M. Pollack, a former C.I.A. analyst and National Security Council official, who is a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and who visited Baghdad in early March.

It is hard to know what Mr. Obama will do since our only clear foreign policy is “Don’t do stupid sh…” as recently stated by a White House official when asked what the foreign policy is.

Three major Iraq cities and many towns have been consumed by the Islamic State in Syria (ISIS also known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant or ISIL). The cities of Fallujah, Mosul and Tikrit have fallen and they were so dearly won with U.S. and Iraqi lives. ISIS is a group so vicious that they have been condemned by Iran and other al-Qaeda groups. The group is comprised of Sunnis and Westerners who plan to form an Islamic Caliphate from Syria to Iraq and beyond.

They are 40 miles outside of Baghdad and will soon march on the capital of Baghdad.

More than 500 thousand Iraqis have fled in terror after a series of mass beheadings. Some in the Iraqi army have been dropping their arms and fleeing.

ISIS is also rich since they seized the banks and have almost $500 million to fund their vile exploits.

None of this happened overnight or in a vacuum. It has been going on for a year. We reported it here. Mr. Obama did what he always does – he voted “present.” His tenure as a state senator in Illinois was notable for how many times he voted “present.”

We have spent more than $2 trillion on the Iraq war, 4500 of our service men and women have died, 132,000 were injured. Mr. Obama made certain it was all for naught. He lost the peace. I am not saying we should have been in Iraq in the first place but it should be noted that more than 60% of the Congress voted to go in along with President Bush. Included in the yea votes were Hillary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi. The Democrats who voted for the war later said they were lied to but that was not true.

Under Obama, Al-Qaeda is stronger than it has ever been. We are on the verge of seeing a radical Islamic state stretching from central Syria through central Iraq. It will present a clear and present danger to the United States and our allies in the region. This group is training Westerners who make up much of their ranks to go back to their home countries, including the United States, to commit acts of terror.

An example of who is in the group is Mehdi Nemmouche, a 29-year-old Frenchman who allegedly carried out a deadly shooting on a Jewish museum in Belgium last month after spending a year fighting with ISIS in Syria.

They are considered the most dangerous jihadi group in the world. They are ruthless and engage in suicide bombing and they are bent on revenge. They believe they have scores to settle and the destruction of the U.S. is on their agenda.

Iran could come in and stop the siege but then Iran would be in control.

After we won in Iraq, Obama left Iraq without trying to get a status of forces agreement. Maliki knew he wasn’t serious about an agreement and went along with it.

It could have made all the difference. Our presence in the region with an articulate foreign policy would have changed the course of events.

Iraqi forces abandoned Kirkuk this week. Iraqi Kurds stepped in and took full control of the northern oil city. There is currently no Iraqi army in Kirkuk according to a Kurdish spokesman, Jabbar Yawar, as reported by Foreign Policy Magazine.

As an aside, Kurds are an amazing people who want to be peaceful. They were often victimized by Saddam Hassam. He slaughtered up to 182,000 for no reason except the evil in his soul.

December 12, 2011, President Obama welcomed Prime Minister Maliki to the White House. He welcomed him as “the elected leader of a sovereign, self-reliant and democratic Iraq.”

In January 2012, Iraq’s former interim Prime Minister Ayad Allawi said that President Obama was wrong when he claimed the United States left Iraq as a stable and democratic country. He was polite and didn’t call him out as a liar.

In January 2014, Sen. Lindsey Graham said this in a joint-statement with Senator John McCain:”While many Iraqis are responsible for this strategic disaster, the administration cannot escape its share of the blame”. “When President Obama withdrew all US forces… over the objections of our military leaders and commanders on the ground, many of us predicted that the vacuum would be filled by America’s enemies and would emerge as a threat to US national security interests. Sadly, that reality is now clearer than ever.”

Maliki did little to unite Sunnis and Shiites and deserves some of the blame but Mr. Obama deserves blame as well.

As all this was going down, he was invisible. When Al-Maliki had no choice but to gravitate towards Iran for protection, Obama did nothing. Now, on the eve of the downfall of Baghdad, with an evil force like the world has never known approaching the capital, he continues to sent military officials out to tell the public they are planning to provide weapons months from now and they might lodge airstrikes.

When will they do that? When Baghdad falls?

It’s hard to know what he will do but nothing is a good guess.

This was supposed to be Mr. Obama’s big success.

Iraq had been won spiritually, ideologically, and militarily but it will now be turned into a terror nation from which to launch terror attacks. The fourth stage of The Obama administration squandered the success. Bin Laden’s vision of a Caliphate is about to be realized. They will use these gains to follow us home.

Obama is the man who released five dangerous Taliban for a deserter. He is the man who thinks there is no war on terror. He ended the nonexistent war on terror but the terrorists didn’t. He is the man who won’t allow the term “radical Islamist” to be used. He is the man who doesn’t care a rat’s ass about Christians being executed in a pogrom.

Expect the same in Afghanistan.

Expect another 9/11.
