Pastor Robert Dekker of the New Covenant Presbyterian Church in Lewes was denied the right to lead eight morning services at the public bandstand on Rehoboth beach because the town manager, Greg Ferrese, said it is a church and state issue.
The pastor will not abide by any law that tries to silence religion and free speech.
One congregant, Christian Hudson, a Sussex County property developer, proposed an event to lead to peaceful worship service on public property. Dekker and Hudson arranged such an event for the morning of July 4. Appropriately, it is Independence Day. Ferrese agreed but arrogantly reminded the pastor to remain peaceful.
The SCOTUS has ruled on similar public access disputes and all of the rulings allowed religious groups access to facilities they’d been denied.
This is just plain un-American!
