Planned Terrorist Attack Will Be ‘Big,’ ‘Strategically Significant’

High-level people in Al-Qaeda are talking about an imminent major attack on the US and Western interests. Oddly, the terrorists had to know their chatter was being picked up.

It is not known where or how the attacks will take place though intelligence officials are concerned they will be carried out by suicide bombers with medically-implanted bombs.

In the earlier part of last week, officials in the intelligence community traced a plot by al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninusla (AQAP) (Yemen-based) to blow up a commercial airliner or cargo plane. The mastermind is Ibrahim Hassan Al Asiri who allegedly planned the attack after the US assassination of Said Al Shihri, a deputy commander of the terrorist movement.

On Thursday, 25 embassies and missions were ordered closed by the US State Deparmtent. A new list has ordered 19 closed through next Saturday.

Some embassies were taken off the original list and new ones were added. All of the new ones are in sub-Saharan Africa.

The added embassies are not in Muslim countries. They are in Mauritius (where Islam is the third-placed religion, followed by 17 percent of the population), Madagascar (seven percent Muslim), Burundi (five percent Muslim) and Rwanda (less than five percent Muslim).

Also last week, prison breaks in nine countries including Pakistan, Libya and Iraq set more than a 1,000 terrorists free, many of whom are Al-Qaeda leaders. Some of the prisoners were former GITMO detainees.

The jail breaks were linked to Al Qaeda which is why we need to send captives to GITMO and not the paper prisons in countries that sponsor terrorism.

The State Department issued an alert late Friday warning US citizens that there is “potential for terrorists to attack public transportation systems and other tourist infrastructure.”

Hours after the US alert, an audio was posted on militant Islamist forums in which Al-Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri accused the US of “plotting” with Egypt’s military, secularists and Christians to overthrow Islamist president Mohamed Mursi.

Al Arabiya reports that Egypt has set August 25th as a trial date for Brotherhood leaders. The Muslim Brotherhood is the head of the snake. All Al-Qaeda ‘affiliates arose out of the Brotherhood.

Interpol issued a worldwide alert on Saturday.

Threats against Western and US interests in particular came soon after the prison breaks. General Dempsey said the warnings were more specific than previous threats.

The chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, Michael McCaul, echoing General Dempsey and Senator Saxby Chandliss, called the threat “probably one of the most specific and credible” he had seen since 9/11.

One senior US official said the planned attack is ‘going to be big’ and ‘strategically significant.’

ABC News quoted the official as stating authorities were stunned that the group broke “operational security” — meaning they talked likely knowing it would be picked up by intercepts.

The purpose could be to terrorize people before they strike or it could be part of a disinformation campaign prior to an attack.

On Sunday, the US State Department announced the continued closure of 19 embassies and missions through Saturday.

The ordered closings are not in response to a new threat stream but are meant to exercise extreme caution.

Facilities to be closed are in Abu Dhabi, Amman, Cairo, Riyadh, Dhahran, Jeddah, Doha, Dubai, Kuwait, Manama, Muscat, Sanaa, Tripoli, Antanarivo, Bujumbura, Djibouti, Khartoum, Kigali, and Port Louis.

The planned attack might be timed with the last night of Ramadan or with other upcoming anniversaries. Wednesday is the 15th anniversary of Al-Qaeda bombings of US embassies in Nairobi, Kenya, and Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, in which 224 people were killed, 12 of them American citizens.

Radio personality and foreign news reporter Aaron Klein said that it is the direct result of US efforts to purge Al-Qaeda terrorists from the ranks of the Syrian Free Army.

The administration’s stated belief is that we are being threatened by a new Al-Qaeda comprised of offshoots of the original when in fact it’s the same Al-Qaeda that has metastasized. All of these so-called ‘off shoots’ or ‘affiliates’ are the same people and the same Al-Qaeda.

Lately, the media has been referring to the Islamic terrorists as insurgents, a much more forgiving term. It is also sadly misguided because the term is not portraying these people as the dangerous enemies they are but rather as people upset with us and possibly wronged by us. The media is misinforming the public by using incorrect terminology.

President Obama announced last week that he would stop the successful drone program, another move which empowers the enemy and makes the US look weak.

Everything Islamic terrorists do is meant to strike fear and  terror in the hearts of their victims. A weak response by the US such as the one we had to Banghazi emboldens the enemy.

The one thing we do know for certain is the attack(s) will come. The only question is when.
