President Obama Not Told of Potential National Security Risk in Petraeus Affair

The Wall Street Journal article today reporting on the Petraeus affair stated that Eric Holder knew about the possibly compromising situation by late August at the latest. It is inconceivable that he didn’t tell President Obama who claims not to have known until the Thursday after the election. Eric Cantor, House Republican, said he knew in October, but said nothing.

The investigation allegedly began in May when a charity worker for the State Department, Jill Kelley, reported harassing emails telling her ‘I know what you did,’ ‘back off’ and ‘stay away from my guy.’ The emails were traced back to Mrs. Broadwell.

Petraeus broke up the affair months ago and was approached by the FBI only recently.

Ms. Kelley and her husband are friends of the Petraeus family and there is no indication that she had an affair with Petraeus. The FBI traced the emails back to the gmail account Petraeus used to communicate with Broadwell.

Some reports claim the FBI came upon the emails when they saw a reference to “under the desk” thinking it meant an exchange of money only to discover it was a reference to sex under the desk.

Mrs. Broadwell, who was interviewed in late September or early October, turned over her computer when interviewed by the FBI and they found classified documents on it. General Petraeus was interviewed the week before the election and he said he did not give her the documents. Mrs. Broadwell was reinterviewed on November 2nd and she said General Petraeus was not the source of the leak.

Director Clapper told Petraeus to resign after hearing the details.

More to the point is why would Eric Holder would ┬ánot tell President Obama and, if he did tell him, why did the president lie and say he didn’t know? Why was something that was possibly compromising to national security held until after an election?
