About a dozen students in Minneapolis, Minnesota, some as young as 11 years old, were taken on a private school-sponsored field trip to an adult sex toy store last week. Some of the parents were furious – all of them should be. Some of the children even bought condoms.
One father, Lynn Floyd pulled his three children from the school. Two of his girls, ages 11 and 13, were on the trip. He filed a police report. He might sue the school. He said he wants his children to be children as long as possible.
After the trip, the sex store, which sees itself as a resource for educators, was cited for code violations by Minneapolis inspectors.
We can argue that parents should be teaching their children about sex but what we can’t argue is that it’s okay for young children to be taken to a porn and sex novelty store. There needs to be some limits, some boundaries.
The school is a K-12 democratic school that promotes academic freedom, youth empowerment and democratic education according to their website.
The trip to SmittenKitten capped a months-long sex education class.
Director Starri Hedges, who teaches the sex ed classes, thought it “was beautiful”. The children “could talk to these sex educators without any shame, without any fear,” according to Hedges.
Pornographic material was removed for the trip but sex toys weren’t among the banned materials. Their sex toys, according to their website, include the Dirty Darling Harness, the Magic Wand, Flaireolas Pasties, leather things, and the hot octopus. They sell environmentally-friendly porn toys.
There are 25 students in the school which has a $100,000 budget.
This is what the Progressives want for all of us.
