The “Gun Violence Prevention and Safe Communities Act,” sponsored by William Pascrell, D-N.J., and Danny Davis, D-Ill., will be voted on in the House. The tax would nearly double the current 11 percent tax on handguns, while raising the levy on bullets and cartridges from 11 percent to 50 percent.

The bill would also raise the transfer tax on guns covered under the National Firearms Act by more than double, indexed to inflation, and the tax on other weapons would increase twenty-fold.

They say the money will be used to fund law enforcement and programs to reduce gun violence.

Why should legal gun owners pay for the acts of violent criminals?

In any case, it will simply be another ATM for the government pigs. It’s also a great way to confiscate guns through taxation.

Pinning the blame of a sick culture, gangs, and unemployed youth on one of the means of delivery, these Illinois representatives hope to reduce gun violence committed by criminals by taxing legal gun owners out of gun ownership. It’s illogical.

It will be a field day for criminals as more-and-more legal gun owners are unable to defend themselves.

The kinds of programs these two like are the well-intentioned but ineffective ones like Chicago’s Safe Passage program. They put up ‘safe passage’ signs and have aides floating around schools as children walk along the ‘safe’ passages which are often lined with gang-bangers and which have been the sites of several gang shootings.

Fox News has the story about the bill.
