Radical Islamists Fighting for Control of Egypt

The Arab Spring is working as expected. At least it was expected by most people except our administration. Protests in Cairo turned violent quickly today.

It is likely the Islamists are causing the violent protests, making the Muslim Brotherhood look moderate.

The Egyptian military has promised to turn over control to the civilian government on July 1st but protesters in Cairo today demanded they do so immediately. Eleven protesters were killed and fifty were wounded.

Abu Ismail supporters were heard chanting “Allahu Akbar,” or “God is Great” in Arabic, as others pelted their attackers with rocks. Some were shooting people in the crowd but it is unclear where the shots came from.

Abu Ismail is an extreme Islamist thrown out of the presidential race because his mother held dual Egyptian-U.S. citizenship.
