Republicans Beware – You Too Could Be Charged with a Felony

One of the reasons we get so many low-lifes running for public office is because the candidates for public office are brutally vilified. How many good people are willing to put up with that? Unless they are perfect, they will find their every sin made public as in the case of Mitt Romney who cut a classmate’s hair in a hazing incident in high school. Other than that incident and using a roof crate for his dog once, Romney was squeaky clean. It didn’t stop the endless attacks.

Democrats are much better at demonizing than Republicans and that is a fact. They are also good at targeting. Sometimes, however, they target guilty people, but it doesn’t mean they weren’t on a fishing expedition.

Dinesh d’Souza, a conservative author and filmmaker, has been indicted on campaign finance law violations. As you know, d’Souza produced the film “2016 – Obama’s America,” which cast Mr. Obama in a negative light. The investigation and Dinesh’s movie are possibly connected.

D’Souza might be guilty but the fact that he was targeted shouldn’t surprise anyone.

D’Souza is accused of using straw donors to make illegal contributions to a college classmate’s (Wendy Long) 2012 campaign. D’Souza and his wife gave the maximum donation of $5000 and then reimbursed others $20,000 for donations to Wendy Long’s campaign for US Senator in NY.

The law is somewhat ridiculous to begin with when you have unions donating hundreds of millions to campaigns and Karl Rove donating millions.

D’Souza is also charged with one count of causing a false statement. [Never lie to the feds!]

D’Souza’s lawyer said there was no criminal intent, and that it was “at most … an act of misguided friendship. [for Wendy Long].” D’Souza has not denied the charges.

D’Souza has had personal problems that caused him to leave Kings College where he served as President. While he was separated from his wife, he became engaged to another woman. Only Democrats are allowed to do things like that.

There is smoke here but that doesn’t mean there is a fire. More to the point, why was d’Souza investigated?

The DOJ’s statement suggests the investigation began with a “routine” check into FEC records. According to the Justice Department press release, “The Indictment is the result of a routine review by the FBI of campaign filings with the FEC by various candidates after the 2012 election for United States Senator in New York. Mr. Bharara praised the investigative work of the FBI.”

Pierce O’Donnell was charged in an identical crime during the John Edwards campaign and he blamed Bush, but he was only charged with a misdemeanor, and served six months in prison. In Dinesh d’Souza’s case they plan to go for the jugular. He is facing 2-5 years in jail. FBI Assistant Director-in-Charge George Venizelos stated: “Trying to influence elections through bogus campaign contributions is a serious crime.”

There have been a series of targeting episodes from the IRS targeting the Tea Party and conservative religious groups, to James O’Keefe being singled out for IRS scrutiny, to the Hollywood conservative group, Friends of Abe, being told by the IRS that they must release the names of their members.

The IRS targeting is particularly egregious. No left-wing groups were targeted, crimes were committed by the IRS but the government refuses to recognize them as crimes. The administration is now making it illegal to be a conservative with a 501 (c)(3) or (c)(4) while organizations like Media Matters and Move On can continue on despite the fact that they are the exact same only they are leftists.

There is also the case of Chris Christie. The left has him in their sights because he was Hillary Clinton’s toughest competition according to polls He might very well be guilty of bullying but much of what he is being accused of is typically done by politicians – they make deals, tit for tat. That’s what politics is.

The case of Bob McDonnell and his wife is also curious. Mrs. McDonnell offered to plead guilty of one count in exchange for her husband not being charged but was turned down. Bob McDonnell was offered a deal to plead to one felony count in exchange for his wife not being charged but he turned that down. He does not believe the government can prove the link between the “gifts” and alleged favors granted his friend and his business. The allegation is play for pay, something for which our local congressman Tim Bishop has been under investigation for years. The feds have never considered becoming involved in his case. Bishop is a far-left Democrat.

The charges against McDonnell include such petty things as taking a ride in his friend’s jet. What is not petty is the fact that they were slammed with what could very well be an overcharge. They are facing 20 to 30 years in jail, more than most murderers in New York City.

The feds have threatened McDonnell and said that if he tries this in the press, they will send him to jail for a long time.

The targeting of conservatives is cause for concern and needs to be watched.

There are so many laws on the books that almost anyone could be charged with a crime. If the government wants to get you, they will get you.

There are so many federal criminal laws that it is impossible to count them. There are 23,000 pages of federal laws on the books.

It’s quite tyrannical.

The NSA can know anything and everything about everyone at this point and it can be used to wipe out opponents, which could explain the timidity of Republicans in Congress. A healthy fear could be weighing into their weak-kneed decisions.

Much of what is going on now is in preparation for the 2014 and 2016 election. If Republicans are felons, no one will vote for them. The Administration will investigate everyone they can investigate.

If you are going to be critical of this administration as a Republican or a Conservative, you had better be squeaky clean and even then, it won’t be enough. You’ve probably broken laws you didn’t even know existed.
